Is there any way to stop this?

Every day I get an average of three e mails from African banks, phony lotteries or dying female Christians, begging me to accept millions of dollars. They arrive with my regular mail, not in the spam box. Help.

Most all of this sort of fradulant e-mail activity originates from Nigeria, where the laws are weak and the authorities are easily bribed. Little can be done to prevent it.

For a ****-poor country such as Nigeria, these internet scams are a major source of "hard-currency"(US dollar, UK pound etc) for their local economy. The officials there simply "look the other way"

About the best one can do is scambait the b@$^@#ds and have some fun in the process.

"So what is scambaiting? Well, put simply, you enter into a dialogue with scammers, simply to waste their time and resources. Whilst you are doing this, you will be helping to keep the scammers away from real potential victims and screwing around with the minds of deserving thieves."

"It doesn't matter if you are new to this sport or a hardened veteran; if you are wasting the time of a scammer, or frustrating them in any way well that's good enough for us, and we would welcome you to join with our now very large community."

You may need to do a little research about your email client, or web site, and start blocking certain email addresses. What you probably need is a third party spam filter, you can find some very good free ones here

you can get a very good free email address at

    http://mail.google.com/

be careful who you give your email address out too

If you are using yahoo mail then you can add a filter. somewhere near the top there should be a options button. click on it and then click mail options. then on the side panel click on filters, the rest is straight forward.

-ps The Dark One is not right. opening mail doesn't do any harmful things to your computer

You can block these spam emails.

And if you have opened them, most likely your pc is infected.

    Run ad-aware.

If you use hotmail, gmail or yahoo just check the emails and "junk" them they wont return.

change your email address and stop using your main one for logging onto sites. Have several throw-away free emails from Yahoo and Hotmail that you can just discard when you start getting too much crap in them.
