In the course of history the harsh reality is that many fight over religion. Allah has no intent of sending a message to harm anyone unless in defense of oneself and persecution. When the Prophet Mohammed(pbuh)was first starting out the people wanted to fight back when being persecuted. The Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) said no because every chance was to be given to try to find peace. At the last minute the answer was to defend and when the enemies called truce they were at truce and believed until they were attacked again. This is the same even for today. We as muslims are persecuted and yet most are silently fighting back in their own ways. Myself is prayer and education and accessing my rights as a human being with the law government, as I am taught to respect the rules where I live becasue rules are meant to help and govern. If I were to go and become the typical stereo type I would have been a serial killer long ago. People in this world need to know this world belongs to EVERYONE to share and not rob, rape or force themselves into what they think they should have. We beleive that the Jewish and Christians are in fact like brothers to us. That we all atone to the same God. The fact that people become so violent is in defense and persecution. It in itself is human nature. My family and I have been shot at, had prayer clothes urinated on, pets killed, our children have been spat on etc. Much more of which is worse. I can proudly say that I never harmed anyone in retaliation. I used what was available to mein the law. My faith was kept me from becoming harmful and following my religion is what kept me from doing things not becoming of any human.
Just my point of veiw.
WE ARE ALL GOD'S CHOSEN PEOPLE. NOT JUST ONE ALL. This is why the Prophet Mosses (pbuh) saved his people. This is why the Prophet Jesus(pbuh) "died" on the cross. This is why th prophet Mohhammed (pbuh)brought us the miracle of the quran.
I believe that the reason that brothers fight in Iraq is because of outward influence. We are all the same suni or shite. The only difference is interprtation. I believe this would have never came to pass if it weren't for meddling.

Sunni's and Shi'ites are fighting eachother because of a bitter history between eachother.
The difference between Sunni's and Shia's is an argument over descendents, who was supposed to be a leader after Mohammed pbuh.
And Islam is peaceful,Islam is a beautiful faith.
Some of the responders to this question are IDIOTS. In the Quran when it talks about fighting is in a time of war.Get it right.Even the bible talks about was and fighting. But NO ONE takes those passages out of context. Funny huh?

I think you are being bit delusional to think that. Shia and sunni always fought each other as did any other group in any other faith. Have you forgotten how one denomination of christianity slaughtered other in the past?
The situation in Iraq has nothing to do with Islam or religion. It is a political issue. When you have bush daddy sanction iraq for 10years and starve to death 1 million iraqi babies, the secretary of state goes on national tv and say it was worth it to protect national interests. what the hell is that? when bush junior crusades into iraq and occupies, what is that? Saddam allegedly killed 225,000 of his people in 20 years while bush junior killed 1.5 million iraqis in 5yrs. And since the occupation, every single oil is going into US reserves. Also, there is plenty of evidence out there to show US troops are impersonating shia and sunnis to bomb each other's towns to start a civil war. So long as they fight each other, no one will kill US soldiers for occupying their land, right? I think we all know which religion is peaceful and which one committed holocaust in Iraq, twice!

Islam is a peaceful religion.every religion is. It is just that people who follow it have flipped out and marred the meanings of this religion.and with everything thats going on these days ppl think islam is so bad.It isnt. It makes perfect sense and urges its followers to be peaceful and most importantly, to be accomodating of other poeple's beliefs.Sunni's,shiites and everyone else have grotesquely misinterpreted this religion.
I am a mahayana buddhist from birth but ive read the quoran and it is a most awe inspiring piece of literature. Its great you took the time to ask this question rather tha jump to conclusions like most ppl do.

there is no regulation in Islam which states that a individual who denounces it's going to be or must be killed, even for apostates. those are regulations made up via followers. on the subject of why Islam is non violent, there are any such great form of reasons, its demanding to describe it multi functional bypass.the only subject i will inform you that Islam denounces racism and non secular intolerance, and the be conscious muslims use fairly than 'hi' is 'salam' meaning peace. The be conscious Islam itself is derived from the basis be conscious salam.

The same reason that the Christians (USA) just murdered 1.2 Million innocent Iraqis in order to control the oil.
Religion is evil, always has been always will be.
EDIT:
"Who owns Iraq oil now"?
""Since March 2003, a series of executive orders by Bush, UN documents, and regulations and orders issued by Iraqi Proconsol Paul Bremer have put the U.S. in absolute control of the state of Iraq, its oil industry and monies, all while lifting barriers to repatriating profits . …
On the same day UN resolution 1483 passed, May 22, Bush signed Executive Order 13303 granting blanket immunity to any U.S. corporation dealing with Iraqi oil through 2007 . Researcher Jim Vallette, who stumbled across the order in the Federal Register, says it “unilaterally declares Iraqi oil to be the unassailable province of U.S. corporations.... In other words, if ExxonMobil or ChevronTexaco touch Iraqi oil, it will be immune from legal proceedings in the United States.” …
So in a little more than two months the Bush administration staked claim to and received UN approval to every significant asset and resource Iraq has in the world, established sole power over how to spend Iraq’s oil money, and indemnifies its corporate cronies from liability."""

I thought Christianity was supposed to be a peaceful religion. Then why are Christians the worst thing that ever happened to mankind? Why have Christians committed more atrocities than all other religious groups combined?

Islam is a peaceful religion and it has nothing to do with control of Iraq.
Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the best of all men. Honestly people, study his life as a human being, leave the religious aspect out if you want to, and you'll see for yourself.

In answer to your follow up question regarding oil rights in Iraq...
I believe they have formally been procured by Western interests at this point.
This begs a number of questions about our presence there in the first place.

It has nothing to do with religion - Christians in England and France have fought for centuries ( remember the 100-years War?)
It's mob psychology and power politics.
