Did you know horses are raised for meat in the U.S.????

They are then shipped to Calgary where up to 114 are loaded on a plane and shipped to Japan. They are bred strictly for meat. They are butchered within 3 days in Japan and are worth close to $20,000.00 each.

Update:

These chosen horses bred to be meat a from the U.S. are shipped live by plane to Japan. The report is put out by the Alberta government and the site can be found on Abolish Horse Slaughter under horses bred for meat.

Update 2:

Raising horses for feedlots is part of production agriculture in Alberta, Sask. B.c. and Manitoba.

Did you know there are some places in this world where murdering women and little girls isn't even considered a crime?

Their husbands and fathers can shoot, behead, beat them in the street, and no one would even call the cops. (Divorce is too difficult. It's easier for a loving husband to pour gasoline or kerosene on his wife and set her on fire. This happens EVERY SINGLE DAY)

There are places where rape is considered THE WOMAN'S FAULT!!!

She is punished, sometimes by death, if she allows a man to "dis-honor" her. ALLOWS!!! Can you believe that?!? Someone holds her down, forces her to endure the greatest pain a woman can endure, then blames her for it.

    Un-believable!

Did you know that right now in certain parts of Africa, the AIDS virus is running so rampant, it's killing people by the 100's every single day? 1000's of children are orphaned, and worse, INFECTED with the virus.

Did you know genocide is the leading cause of death in some parts of the world?

Did you know that in Darfur, people are living in squalor and dying of diseases that aren't even heard of in America?

    DO SOMETHING!!!

It's pointless to mention a problem and do nothing.

I could point to a dog dying in the street, but unless I get involved, WHO CARES?

i will't answer this as an American via fact i'm Canadian, yet up here in Canada there are people who purchase horses from the auctions, in lots of circumstances yearlings, positioned them out on the pasture for a 12 months, fatten them up and then deliver all of them off from slaughter. I in basic terms found out a pair of community tack keep that funds their corporation by using doing that. Horse meat can be fairly risky. If a horse consumes bute that is not any longer meant to be slaughtered for human intake on the grounds that's risky for human beings. The horses are no longer examined for this and different risky components formerly they are slaughtered and shipped over seas to be eaten. Canadians are working to outlaw horse slaughter and it is the reason, via fact there are too many risky pollutants in maximum horses and yet they are nevertheless be slaughtered for human intake. I doubt maximum individuals will start up eating horse meat. there is fairly the marketplace for transport it distant places to Europe nonetheless.

I knew that. And the hooves are made into glue and other stuff. The hair is made into a lot of things. And the meat is also used for dog food.

The guy on the "Weird Foods" show says horse is delicious.

He ate some at an Icelandic meat market on an episode yesterday.

Yes, i think most people do. The reason they are shipped to other countries is because horse slaughter was banned in the USA. So now those horses have no where to go. And the ones being bred have to suffer there whole life, take longer to get to where they need to go, and die in an unhumanly way. Most people are glad that horse slaughter was stopped in the US. I for one am not. I think the law should have changed to have it done humanly. We slaughter cows, and chickens, and all sorts of other animals. I can see why people dont want to kill horses for meat. They are talented animals, they can jump, do neat tricks, and make a little girls dream come true. But not every little girl can or wants a horse. So what happpens to those horses. Lets see, some starve, die of dehadration, get killed unhumanly, let go to fend for themselves, get abused, oh and get shipped to another country so they can be killed and eating. Well good job to the people that stopped horse slaughter in the USA!

God put animals on the earth for us to eat. YES THAT INCLUDES HORSES! Just because humans have the design of horses carying them, doesnt change why they are really here. Most people may not like that fact but its true.

Im sick of hearing that horse slaughter is not humane. They it is done sometimes no its not. But overall eating them is Gods well natured plan.

I love horses, and i have a horse. I willl never eat horses. But its something the world needs. Think if no one was allowed to shoot deer, how many would be overpopulated and die from that. Or people not being able to raise pigs and cows to eat. What would you do without your backen in the morning? Its the same thing expet people love horses. well gues what people have cows that they love! and pigs! and all animals. Just because you think that since horses can carry people they should not be allowed to end there suffering. Thats just sick!

Why would you want an older horse to live out his life suffering! Or a sick one, or a starving one, or one that is going to die no matter what you do. how could you let an animal suffer just because you think horse slaughter is wrong?!

I'm trying to grasp why they would ship live horses by plane from Calgary, when slaughter is legal in Calgary?

I have no idea whether horses are or aren't being bred for slaughter here in the US, but I know that the sale of horses in the USA to meat buyers is alive and well, so it wouldn't surprise me if someone is breeding for it.

Wolf grrl..No slaughterhouses remain in business in the US...horses are shipped to Mexico or Canada for slaughter.

Uh...no. Horses are bred here in the US (often by morons) who cant afford the pay for the animal they created. These horses are often sent to auction where they are loaded into trucks and hauled to Mexico or Canada. They are then killed (in disgusting and cruel ways) and sent to Japan and France where they are eaten. They are killed in Canada or Mexico NOT in Japan, though the Japanese and all their geniusness might be able to figure out a better way.

Actually...they're not raised for meat. "Raised" implies that they are bred and, well, RAISED specifically for that purpose, like beef cattle. Horses are not raised for meat in the US. Many US horses end up in Canadian and Mexican slaughterhouses, to be sure, but none are raised for meat. Backyard breeders are ensuring that raising horses for meat never becomes necessary *grumble*

"They are butchered within 3 days in Japan and are worth close to $20,000.00 each."

WHAT? Where the heck are you getting this information? Good heavens. Horse meat isn't a delicacy anywhere in the world.

  • 1 decade ago

Many are auctioned off and shipped to Mexico, alive, in the back of giant transport trucks. They go for days without any food or water under the hot sun. Then when they get to their destination, they stagger off the truck, often fall, are picked up and thrown with tractors and are taken to a meat processing plant.

It is disgusting and it is wrong!

As far as horses slaughtered for meat in the USA, it is happening less and less. There were actually pretty humane slaughterhouses in the USA across the Midwest until extreme animal activists got them shut down.

How can this atrocite be stopped? If you are a horse lover and choose to ignor the situation rather than do something about it, you are as much a horse murderer as the men who butcher the horses. All horse lovers must band together to stop the inhumane slaughter of horses!
