Hello, Benita I:
Chapter 2 of Isaiah deals with God's judgments of man, and verse 22 is its finality.
The word in Hebrew for breath is rosch, Greek, pneumos. It was that spirit that God breathed in Adam's nostrils during creation:
Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."
And that spirit returns to God at death: Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
The Bible says that at death man's spirit is unable to communicate thus man ceases to exist until resurrection day.
Jesus said there are two resurrections, one for eternal life, and one for eternal condemnation John 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation" (The wicked are condemned to eternal destruction).
You will want to be in the first resurrection when God's breath enters your re-created body. And for the wicked, they will live again, and face the "second death."
The Bible code tells when that will happen, and you need carefully read chapter one to see this explained so clearly: http://abiblecode.com/

I am not a pastor, but in the NIV it says this: Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?
If you read the entire chapter, it is saying do not trust man, only God.

The 'breath is in his nostrils,' is a simple analogy
warning against the 'pride' of man.'

2:22 Stop regarding man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils; For why should he be esteemed?
This is what it actually says.
I think it's pretty self explainitory.

Stop trusting people. Their life is in their nostrils. How can they be worth anything?
thats what it says

This type of sentiment is expressed many times. Do not put your trust in man, he is here now and gone tomorrow. Rely on God, he will always be there to help you.
In this verse, that sentiment is simply condensed.

It's talking about how human beings are mortal and God is eternal. Don't trust in what human beings who were not around for all eternity say, trust in what the eternal Creator has to say.

means simply
don't trust in man who has but a breath in his nostrils..
(or a very short time) back reference it to psalms 146.3
"Do not trust in princes,or In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation"
