Just moved to Seattle? Buy house now or later?
We've just moved to Seattle, from Los Angeles. We're trying to decide whether to buy a house now, or wait for six months or so. Our financial situation is solid, we can afford to buy now, we just want to know if it would be better to wait.

NOW, NOW, NOW. Seattle housing can be horrendous in terms of price. If I could buy 10 houses now, I would. They'll go back up again, and you might find that you've lost out. Of course there is some effort involved. Research neighborhoods (c'mon, how long does that take?) and see about getting a list of bank repos and repo auctions coming up. Now is such a good time to buy, but a lousy time to sell. Low-ball any offer you make, you might be pleasantly surprised. GL!

I have lived in Seattle for 20 years now. It depends on where you want to live and how long you are going to live here but over a five year period, housing prices have not gone down in Seattle. The housing market is still doing considerably well as opposed to other big markets. We have not seen the same downturn. Seattle will continue to grow and will continue to see better days. If it were up to me and I was going to be staying in Seattle for a while, I would buy now. Also depends on the neighborhood or location that you are moving into because in some of the suburbs you will find some good deals at reasonable prices. If you are trying to buy in downtown Seattle you may not be able to find great deals because some many people are trying to stay close to the city with gas prices, etc. Again if it were me I would buy in Seattle. You will find some smokin' deals that will definitely pay off.

wait...rent a place somewhere, preferably a month to month. Start looking and take your time. Learn the seattle area so you know where you do and do not want to live. Keep saving so when you find the right place, you are ready to act. Most "experts" say we are in for another 18 months of real estate depression, so you have the luxury of being patient. You are in a good position to get a really good deal. Welcome to a great city!

It is a buyers market right now with all the foreclosures out there. Rates have been increasing over the last 3 weeks. As a mortgage professional, I would say do your research now on where you want to live and so on. It may take you 3 months to find the house that you really want anyways.

im not from seattle, but i think if you're moving to any new city, its best to wait before making a commitment like buying a house. Get to know the city, and which areas you could see yourself living in for a long time.

wait unless you absolutely know where you want to live. Lets face it some sections of any town are better than others. You may find a great buy in a few months in the neighborhood you truly want

Buy now! Interest rates are going up and will be at 7% by December.
Also, after Obama is elected the economy will get better because consumer confidence will increase.

:Look around and see where you want to buy - start looking - this way you can take your time to educate yourself about the area.
