IMO, it somewhat does counter what the Brewers got. At the time, I believe it was Sabathia, Harden, Burnett and Bedard whom were being shopped around, but Sabathia was the best pitcher during that time to pick up. Chicago getting the next best pitcher that was being shopped around was a great move. Both the Brewers and Cubs have two #1 starters in their rotations (Brewers: Sheets and Sabathia, Cubs: Zambrano and Harden.)

I don't think it was really meant to counter the Sabathia move...even with the Sabathia I wouldn't pick the Brewers to win the division...I think this move is basically the Cubs saying we don't just want the division...we want to win the World Series...I think they would've won the division without Harden...now they have a good shot to go all the way.

Yes because pitching wise, the Sabathia trade matched the Brewers starters up with the Cubs starters, probably gave them an advantage, with Harden added to the Cubs staff(and the big if that he stays healthy), he gives their rotation an edge, both teams can hit, it comes down to their pitching:
Zambrano= Sheets
Harden=Sabathia
Dempster>Parra
Lilly> Bush
Marquis<McClung

I really don't think they gave up that much . I mean they gave up "future" talent but that does not equal for sure big leaguer. I remember a few years ago when everybody said you can't get rid of Bobby Hill...... and how is Bobby Hill doing these days? Exactly. With no salary cap I do this trade all day ! Murton is not better then any of the guys we have....Patterson could end up like his brother and never be able to hit at the Major League level..... Donaldson or Gallagher were the two with the most upside in my eyes and we have a young All Star catcher in Soto.... and every one wants lefties.....we have Marshall, Lilly ,and Hill already. I think it was a good trade for both sides(which is what it is supposed to be) and I think he will look good in Cubbie Blue !

No, Harden Is half the pitcher CC. that soundslike a reaction
to the CC trade and I havent seen the Details on it but, iwould say that the CUBS pitching wasnt bad enough to give up anything good for Harden

heck yes. the cubs didn't have to give up a great young soon-to-be-allstar to get Harden. The Cubs got a steal fron oakland, and I still think they'll get wolf or burnett.

If it doesn't oh well! The Cubs are still leading the NL Central! The Cubs need to worry about the Cardinals NOT the Brewers.

It may have leveled the playing field but they sold the farm..... it better work out
Gallagher, Murton, Patterson & Donaldson go to Oakland for Harden & Gaudin
