What jazz radio station do you listen to? OR Do you have a differnet way of hearing jazz?

Either on the FM radio or on the internet.

Or do you have some other way of hearing jazz that is new to you.

Please give a brief description of the kind of station they are. If its a smooth "jazz" station please don't bother posting it (thanks anyway).

Provide a link, if its not too much of an inconvenience. I'd like to hear whats out there.

Thanks in advance.

Update:

Or course, there really is no, one, best answer. The question is not an opinion oriented question.

I'm going to take the time to listen to all the stations you all suggested. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I listen to KNTU, on the radio and the internet, from the University of North Texas in Denton (just north of Dallas/FtWorth). UNT has a great jazz program, and the station plays good stuff--mostly contemporary artists, but they'll go back to classics here and there, and there ain't no "smooth jazz" about it. They don't play jazz on Saturday or Sunday morning, and they sign off at midnight and come back on at 6:00 a.m. Check it out: http://www.kntu.fm/

Subscribe to XM satellite radio and listen to channel 72, "Beyond Jazz". They have been doing a lot of jazz fusion lately, featuring Return To Forever with Chick Corea, Stanley Clark and Al Dimeola, and promoting the Return To Forever world tour. It is fabulous. Once you become a subscriber, you can listen to it online, too. I'm a real radio junkie and then satellite radio came into being, I felt I had died and gone to heaven, considering the lameness of our local radio stations.

I don't really listen to jazz on the radio, because the stations that I know only has smooth jazz, so I buy my own CD'S'. I like listening to free jazz, Latin jazz, Swing, and Funky jazz. My favorite tenor saxophone jazz player is John Coltrane, my favorite alto saxophone Jazz player is Charlie Parker, and my favorite flute jazz player is Herbie Mann.

It seems a shame to me that we have to get most of our jazz on radio stations. There is nothing to compare with live jazz.

http://www.kkfi.org/ here is my (kansas city) incredible local public radio station. they do some jazz shows.

http://www.kcur.org/FFArchives.html and here is the other, it is a really great blues/jazz/zydecho/soul kind of mix. they have lots of music in their archives for streaming.

but mainly, i just hear about bands through my many channels of finding bands, including yahoo answers, and download some of them, and if i like it download or buy more of it.

,Philadelphia, WRTI, the radio station of Temple University.

Classics, 6AM to 6PM, then jazz until 6AM the following morning.,

There used to be an all classic station on Philadelphia, WFLN, buit they went off the air. WRTI to the rescue, they split their format, classics all day, jazz all night,.

    Thank you, WRTI
