What do people like about alcohol? The actual taste or the feeling afterwords?
I just wanted to know, as I never really understood this. To be quite honest I don't really like the taste of it but I don't mind the cocktails or the mixed drinks with the tiniest bit of alcohol in it. But what does really make people drink? Thanks for answering in advance.
Just to add, I do not drink, maybe one cocktail in a year or something like that and only in a occasion, but appart from that, I just choose not to. I hate the smell and the taste of it.

People drink for several reasons, some do it to be social,but most do it to get drunk and feel high. Actually it makes you feel like crap after one too many, but most people, are addicted to alcohol, and they drink it to not feel their true feelings. Many people are not happy in their life for whatever reason, andare living in a great deal of pain, so they drink to self-medicate their emotional pains, same as drug users do. the cold hard fact that takes them so long to learn, is that the issue that they are trying to run from is still with them when the alcohol has long worn off. They feel even worse than before, usually because of some dumb or hurtful act they did while drunk. Alcoholism is a very serious disease and a slow and painful death. If you do not like the taste, leave it at that while you are ahead. alcohol destroys a person and the people around them as well. I am the daughter of an alcoholic and as a result, I am a drug addict, thankfully, I now have over 10 years sober and I plan to die sober some day! I hope you will remember how bad that stuff tastes and leave it alone. God bless you! Now if I could just find a way to stay out of Starbucks! I love my gourmet coffee and cookies too! yummy!

I do love a good cocktail! Alcohol totally tastes bad! But the feeling you get after just a drink or two is awesome and of course you don't want to over do it! I think people drink also because it is a legal, somewhat mind altering, substance and alcohol has been around so long that the effects are known.

I think people like the actual taste of the alcohol, but that's only SOME types of alcohol.. some alcohol drinks reek and it's either too strong but sometimes they like it cos they like to drink it to forget about their sorrows. I don't think it's because of the feeling afterwards cos it is not exactly a good feeling. You feel reaal dizzy and it's blurry.

cocktails and mixed drinks are the best.. for the most part the care free feeling, really makes for a fun night

For people with really strong feelings (not wimps like you) it let's them relax. If it tastes good as well, so much the better!
