What's that in my fish tank?!?

Hi, I've had my 4ft fish tank for about 2 months now. the ph is just below 7. and I've been using Melafix and Primafix in the past week. recently.. i've notice little white (insect/fish?) things swimming around my tank. the fish seems to eat them as they please. they seem to like to hang around the surface. and they swim similar to a baby fish.. where the will shoot off to a spot and then stop.. then shoot off somewhere else. they are about 1/4 mm. and can hardly see it with bare eyes.... what are they???

Update:

i don't think it could be insect larva.. because it's winter in Australia. and since i've moved to this place, I haven't seen any fly or even mosies. plus. the tank is covered.

they are way too small to see with naked eyes. i've try to capture them and put them in a small clear container and look at it with one eye... still too small to see.

Update 2:

forgot to mention.. there are hundreds of them.

only fish i've got that could possibly have fish baby that small is the feeder barb. I also have glass shrimps, and 2 fresh water prawn.. but i thought they'd stay at the bottom of the tank if they have babies

Lol, don't think it is an axoloto

    Anyway hey Leo,

what you have in your tank is daphnias aka water fleas. They are crustaceans that live in slow moving or still water creeks, lakes. They are called water fleas because of their weird bouncy swimming movement in the water. If you go to your nearest creek, you would probably see tonnes of them. Water fleas are great live food for fish especially baby fry. You can scoop your water fleas out and culture them. I have tonnes of them in my backyard in a bathtub dedicated to them. They filter feed, eating suspended algae (greenwater) I mostly use them to condition my tropical fish and goldfish and to feed my baby fishes.

They breed readily amd when the conditions are perfect, no males are produced and the female will give birth to live youngs without the help of males.

    Hope I've helped.

Does it look like a thing clearish/whiteish worm? I've had something like that in my tanks in the past. I have no clue where they come from, but they are usually harmless and fish will eat them. If your looking for a way to remove them, you could try adding aquarium salt, or treat the tank with Mardel's Coppersafe; that usually kills unknown things in my tanks! Primafix and melafix are just for bacterial and fungus growth on fish and shouldn't kill any of those things. Good luck finding out what it is, I'd love to know too!

definitely, my first suggestion could be to get a minimum of a 20 gallon tank in case you could arise with the money for it. a 10 gallon tank is extremely proscribing in terms of what fish you could shop in it, and it fairly is extra complicated to maintain than a extra robust tank simply by fact the water high quality can substitute speedier. a super style of the fish you notice in puppy shops are too vast to maintain in a 10 gallon tank in case you purchase them in the pronounced numbers for desirable college length. do no longer question me why, yet many puppy shops do no longer carry aquariums extra effective than 55 gallons, yet they sell fish that would require a extra robust aquarium than that. very almost each and every shop i've got seen consists of oscars which choose a minimum of 75 gallons. besides, in case you have your heart set on a 10 gallon tank, pay interest to catx, quite her article approximately stocking a 10 gallon tank. She is familiar with what she's speaking approximately. especially, do no longer even think of roughly putting goldfish in a tank that small. those "adorable little goldfish" you notice in shops would be a foot long as adults and choose 20 gallons of water in keeping with fish.
