in malachi last book of new testament (chapter 3:8-11 in old testment god said bring your tithes and offering into the storehouse, a tenth...if u had 10 sheep a tenth was one sheep, did not necessarily mean money.

in the new testament u cannot find the word tithe in it, tithing was under mosaic law. we do not live under that law now but after jesus came we now live under grace.

says bring your tithes into the storehouse so we may have meat,

offerings are what you give for the upkeep of a church, example. electric, gas, to keep the chuch running properly... but u gave as god tells you to give, you give what you are able to. ( the widow gave a mite (1/10 of a cent) but was all she had to give.

i do not believe in tithing unless someone can show me in the new testament where we are told to tithe.

personelly i would decline that invatation. sound just like a way get money to me. and i have never ever heard of such a service and i have been a christain over 30 years

    hope this may help you.

too late in evening for elaborate, but tithing is a principal of the bible. i can think of 2 stories but not sure of the books or chapters. too tired to look it up.

    1. the poor woman who gave all that she had to Christ. He said she was more humble or had more favor or something because even though the amount was smaller than most, that she gave all that she had.

    2. old testament i believe where the cattle or crops was offered as a tithe to the Lord.

i know there are verses that also support it, but can't think of it right now.

**not so sure about the whole having a church service to tithe- but the concept of tithing is biblical. the bible says 10%- but tithing should be done discreetly and is between you and the Lord. no collection plate for people to keep tabs on if you put it in or how much, and no pledges to the church in public... it's a personal thing that is supposed to show your gratitude to God and all that He gives us.

The word 'tithe' simply means 10% of one's income. 0fferings are anything given willingly over and above that.
