will a desktop pc work on mobile broadband or is it just for laptops?
I am moving to a fixed location, with no phoneline/landline and I wish to use the internet - I figure my best option is Vodaphone Mobile Internet via their USB dongle - but I have a desktop PC, will it still be a viable option for me?

Yes, that should be perfectly fine, BUT you should check that you will get an adequate signal at the location where you will have your desktop.
Also remember this will be a lot more expensive to run than a wired or cable connection. You will also find that most mobile providers have a fairly restrictive "fair usage policy" which will limit the amount you can download per month.

A computer doesn't know whether it is moving or not, it just knows what plugs are connected. So if you can get internet to your laptop, it's not a problem with desktop PC, they're running the exact same operating system, which for most people is Windows XP. If this place has no landline, you should make sure you get cellular signal also; it's hard to imagine a place that has wireless access and no landline access...

If the cellular broadband internet modem has (no longer a USB) a Cat5/6 socket, you could connect it immediately into the router. The cable modem or DSL modem demands an instantaneous feed to a important pc or on the spot router it fairly is declared to the main helpful pc to edit the settings and share archives freely. cellular broadband internet modem has a sparkling call via the way. in case you bypass to a service shop and ask approximately "MiFi" and the thank you to hitch, they could provide it to you. MiFi is yet another definition of WiFi the place you place it on your luggage tournament and use WiFi adapters to connect with it and characteristic 3G/4G service.
