Don't try "cutting back" because it never works. Just quit! After 5 days you should be though a lot of the withdrawal. The lungs are amazing organs and can heal a lot of the damage the nicotine has done. Look at it this way: Nothing attempted; nothing gained.

Breaking the HABIT of reaching for a cigarette is what you need to focus on. Find something else to do with your hands at the times when you want to reach for one.

I smoked for 17 years, placed my last cigarette in the ash tray, unlit, and never picked up another one. God gave me everything I needed to quit. It has now been over 24 years since I had a cigarette and it's as if I never smoked.

Go for it; YOU CAN DO IT!

It is never too late to quit, however there are many plusses and negatives.

If after a long time you quit smoking, you can uncover other nasty things that the smoking has otherwise held at bay.

However, if you quit smoking, you are less likely to get cancer/ lung disease, heart disease, erectile disfunction and a few other things.

Also, I've known (my grandfather) at the age of 70, on 20 a day, give up on a single stroke. When he was told, if he didn't give up smoking he would die within three months. That would...certainly give anyone an insentive.

Roll your Own, are much better for you, than cigerettes, because most of the time, the added addictive toxins are not there any more.

There is only one way to stop...regardless of all the rubbish you might hear, and that is to simply 'Stop!' Those who go after incentives, nicorette patches, hypnotherapy, just don't want to actually stop. If you find a reason to stop, you'll quit. Simple as. Until then, you'll just keep smoking. Follow my advice and just stop, live out the withdrawal symptoms (for up to 3 years) and never smoke again.

Never too late. There are those that are very lucky and can survive the worst of habits. But your risks REMAINS as big as ever if you continue. Quitting smoking may reduce your risks by more than 50% of aquiring the diseases and conditions from smoking. The longer you STAY QUIT, that percentage gradually will increase. You may always have SOME risk but it has been found that most smoking related diseases come from active smokers (50%-75%).

i've heard if you quit within 5 years of starting, your lungs can partially or fully heal back. I quit about 5 years after starting, only because I had my wisdom teeth out and it killed me to smoke. I used nicorette patches too. they worked excellent and to this day, i don't smoke. i tried on the patch, but i got sick. after 40 years, i suggest talking to your doctor. there are prescriptions to help now. nicorette was great for me too. use toothpicks as a fake cigarette. the damage is probably done, but it wouldn't hurt you to stop now. good luck.

No matter what damage had been done, if you quit smoking, you will detoxify your body and clear up your lungs over the years. You will see the considerable improvement in your lung condition within 5 years.
