Why would a gay Christian remain a Christian.?
All I can say is for a gay person to remain associated with people who thrive on bigotry and hate, they must really love Jesus and God.
Do you think that their love of Jesus is why they remain a Christian?
Would you have the courage to stand up to ignorance for the sake of your love for Jesus?
This is the hate and ignorance that a gay Christian has to be subjected to.
"Yes i agree in the Bible it says homosexuality is evil, yet they think its ok and continue to call themselves Christian, its blasphemey I cant believe all you people who are siding with homosexuals, thats why our country of America is falling apart, becasue people are falling away from Christ. God hates gays, and lesbians, he states so in the Bible. Its you people who say " oh its okay if their gay, i dont mind. "oh that nice little pregnant girl can murder her baby, it doesnt affect me." You weak-minded people who call yourselves Americans make me ashamed of my own country. What happened to the morals our country was founded on? The morals and beliefs of Christianity?! You people are abandoning them, committing sins outright and saying its your free choice. Well its also your free choice to go to Hell. So have fun =]"
Could you remain in the same religion as that person? I could not.

I haven't read the other answers to this question, but I'm sure you'll get a lot of them along the lines of: "you can't indict Christianity as a whole based on the words of a few people who call themselves Christians." But, in my experience, there are a lot more Christians who espouse the views of the half-wit you quoted than those who embrace tolerance and compassion. And, even though he's clearly a total shitweasel, that guy is more or less right - the Bible does say that God despises homosexuality.
So, when the majority of Christians hold an intolerant view and biblical scripture clearly supports it, you CAN reasonably indict the whole religion for it.
Like I've said before, when someone says they're a Gay Christian, it sounds to me just like someone saying they're a Jewish Nazi. It sounds self-loathing.

I am that exact thing. Both gay and Christian. This is possible because even though I have feelings for somebody of the same sex, I still believe everything I believed before I made the discovery that I am most certainly anything but straight.
In terms of other Christians? Generally they do not understand how somebody can commit such a great sin. Because they do not understand what being gay feels like (a normal heterosexual relationship with two people of the same sex). This, along with 7 verses of the bible addressing homosexuality, inspires some Christians to try and make the gay see that God doesn't agree. This creates bigoted comments and views.
Each to their own - everybody has their own beliefs and lifestyles and some people unfortunately cannot see that. Including "I-am-forgiven-Jesus-loves-me" Christians.

I was a Christian for 20 years but I never swallowed the "gay is an abomination" nonsense. It helped that I didn't go to the type of church that crams that down your throat 24-7. In fact I don't recall once hearing anybody in any church I ever attended (clergy, parishioner or otherwise) mention the subject. Of course I ended up an losing my faith and returning to atheism, but it had nothing to do with my being a lesbian.
I'm far more fortunate than other LGBT people who buy the line that who and what they are is bad, and end up mentally and spiritually tortured. The results can be deadly....

It is their truth; they would rather suffer injustice than to deny Christ, as the Bible says Christians should.
No offense, Tx, but what you are asking is similar to asking why blacks didn't just walk instead of taking the bus and enduring being treated like second-class citizens.
Bigotry must fought. Unfortunately, that means some suffering on the part of the fighters.
EDIT in response to your additional details:
There are all kinds of Christians, Tx. They don't necessary have to worship at a place where they are persecuted. Take, for instance, a Universalist church where they are treated with dignity.
The post you are referring to is from an extreme fundamentalist. They are in the minority, IMHO.

I know several gay Christians. I myself am Bisexual, and I came to the conclusion long before I realized I was Bi that Christianity wasn't for me.
In any event, Christianity is just a religion, just a group of people who hold similar beliefs and values. That doesn't mean *everyone* thinks the same way about everything. Most of the gay Christians (and gay Jews and gay Muslims...) that I know believe that God made them the way they are, and he wouldn't have done that if it was wrong. They believe in the Christian God, and they believe that it is right for them to stand up against the hatred and smug superiority of some of their peers rather than give up on that.
Plus, some of them feel as if it will be helpful for young Christians who may be struggling with a queer identity. For them to have solid gay, Christian role models to say "we are not all intolerant" can mean the world to them.

There are a few accepting Churchs. 38,000 Denominations, one of those might be accepting.
Note: This is not a complete list, but aims to provide a comprehensible overview of the diversity among denominations of Christianity. As there are reported to be over 38,000 Christian denominations, [1] many of which cannot be verified to be significant, only those denominations with Wikipedia articles will be listed in order to ensure that all entries on this list are notable and verifiable.

In fairness, all Christians are not as hateful and ignorant as the one you quoted.
There are Christian sects that do not condemn gay people. Perhaps gay people who remain Christians have managed to avoid the truly fundie churches and dogma.

Are you not aware that only some narrow minded Christians interpret understanding that Gay is sinful? Not all Christians believe, understand and act that way. Gays truly have every right to practice the faith of choice just as all humans do.

We are all sinnners, we all sin, why stay a Christian, because Jesus is our only hope to keep us from sinning. No one sin is worse than the other, the consequences may be worse though. Not every Christian is a bigot and hate, I don't. We need to stand up against sin, but we are to love those in sin or bondage. The longer that we have a relationship with Jesus the less we want to sin and can come out of bondages.

Yes I could and do stay with a belief that has people I don't agree with. Simple answer is because it's not about them or me, it's about God. So I'm still a Christian even though someone like Fred Phelps, who makes me sick, claims to be one also. You will know them by their fruits.
