I'm starting to worry that something might be wrong with my son...?

He seems like he's having trouble breathing

He's two, and is really healthy. I don't smoke, and he's not around anyone that does.

He's taking 2-3 normal breathes, then he'll inhale and hold it for about 3 or 4 seconds and then grunt as he's exhaling.

He's been doing it for a few days now. He has a little bit of a running nose, but it's not that bad.

Does he breathe like this at night when he is sleeping? If he is, then take him to the doctor's right away. If he isn't, then watch him carefully during the day to see if the breathing problem is consistent. He might have see some one doing it and is just repeating what he has seen.

usually a doctor will inform you to no longer commence nerve-racking until the only million.5 365 days mark. for the reason which you have had a baby earlier, it stands to reason which you might have little ones, yet dont factor a finger at hubby in basic terms yet! LOL Why dont you bypass and get an ovulation tester from say Wal-Mart, or Walgreens or someplace so which you would be able to attempt to be sure the final obtainable time to your physique to conceive. i understand its kinda of a "planned intercourse" component, yet once you're the two willingly attempting for a baby jointly, then i think of it would paintings fabulously! If paying for a attempt is out of the ? on the 2nd, then you definately can in basic terms calculate 2 weeks after your era starts and the date which you get is the day which you're maximum fertile. Like, in case you count style 14 days and it finally ends up on say a twenty third...you bypass 2 days past and 2 days after. So your height 5 days are the twenty first-the twenty 5th with the middle day being the final obtainable day. Make experience? good success!

He might be having some difficulty breathing but he also might be playing around testing his breathing.

Toddlers are still fascinated by everything around them. Breathing & holding it in may just be him "seeing what he can do"

If you are worried, try some steam to see if it helps (shut the bathroom door & run hot water (this will help if he's struggling to breathe)

How old is he? Is he old enough to discuss this with? Ask him if it hurts on his chest (and point?) Most people struggling to breathe (asthma, etc) have some form of discomfort.

If things get worse, or you're really worried, see a doc but other than that, follow your instincts

    Call your pediatrician immediately...

"Increased work to breathe. Signs of this include:

Grunting. The baby makes a little grunting noise at the end of respiration. This serves to try to open up blocked airways."

This is listed under the "when to worry" part of the article on WebMD. Good luck, and I hope your son is breathing easy soon!

I think you should contact his doctor. Anytime a child is having issues with breathing it can be serious. He could be just experimenting around but I would call his doctor to be sure. It isn't worth risking it in case it is something serious.

How old is your child? My son had sleep apnea when he was an infant and had a monitor. It might be a case of apnea if the baby is a newborn.

You need to call the doctor and tell him the symptoms and see if its anything to be concerned about. It just may be a funny little habit he is getting into or it could be some sort of a breathing problem as a result of allergies or asthma. Call and ease your mind.

I babysit a bunch of kids that age. And a few of them got sick with some kind of laryngitis type virus and had a similar symptom.

It's pretty common so don't worry. Just take him to get a physical to see what's up. He could also have some allergies causing MINOR inflammation. But don't worry!

And certainly take doctor's advice before you take any for any people on here.

    :)

Please take him and have the Doctor listen to his chest and airways. He could have a chest or lung infection or even maybe bronchitis or even a touch of croup or asthma so please do not let this continue much longer as he is so young and he can not tell you what is going on in his little body.
