My dog stinks really bad, but every time i give her a bath she still stinks the next day! What do i do?

My dog Gypsy is an outdoor dog. We give her baths on warm days and let her run around to dry off. But the next day Gypsy still seems to stink just as bad before her bath! Is this normal?

What do I do? Thanks!

It could be a number of things. Your first trip should be to the vet to have her checked out to make sure everything's OK. Another possibility is that she's just one of those dogs like like to roll in smelly things. You could bathe her 5 times a day & she'd keep going back to that spot.

I bathe my siberian husky every single month and she always smells great, her skin is clear and he coat is softer than you could imagine. But the problem with you dog is probably that she has a fungal infection, you don't groom/bathe her often enough, your feeding her a bad quality dog food or she may be getting into some garbage or manure and rolling in it to dry off after a bath (and just for fun). And no offense but I find strictly outdoor dogs to be cruel.

Where does she stink? Around her mouth? Around her ears? Her anal region? I'd take her to the vet for a check-up to make sure she doesn't have a disease or infection.

Her food could be the culprit, too. What do you feed her?

Don't worry, I won't start preaching you on the whole outside dog thing. I'm too tired.

A lot of the time it could be a smell coming from the ears. Wash them out with ear wash about once a week. Dental treat couldn't hurt either. http://www.k911.biz/Petsafety/EarInfection.htm

Is a really great recipe for an ear wash. Also try to get the anal glands as well.

it is not good to bathe your dog more than once or twice a week they make doggie scent and cologne my favorite spray is called fresh-n-clean and you can get it at any pet store and i would definetly make sure her ears are clean because that can cause your dog to stink and if you try drying her then she might not smell as bad.

You say that she is an outdoor dog. If you have checked her teeth, ears, anal glands, diet et all and she still stinks- she may be rolling in something abnoxious. Things that reek to us are irresistable to dogs. They will roll in horse or cow feces to mask their own scent (a hunting thing)

    Just my 2 cents

She's got some sort of fungus on her skin and probably something in her food is making her skin stinky. She needs to go to the vet, make the vet take a culture.

Also it might be her ears.

Take Gypsy to see her doggy-doctor!

it could very well be the type of dog she is. also, my dog tucker eats pedigree dog food because i am 90% sure it has something in it to help with his skin. maybe your dog smells because she is outside more.

and if you let your dog run around to dry off DONT let her run around outside...because she is just going to get dirty all over agian and then there really is no point in giving her a bath.

She could be getting into something in the yard and eating it and it can make them smell. It also can be health related with thyroid or allergies.
