    1) Delete your groups.cache file. You can find it in My Documents>EA Games> The Sims2>Groups.cache. This becomes corrupted easily and should be deleted frequently. I would be willing to bet that just deleting this will fix your problem.

    2) Do you have any custom content downloaded? Try removing your entire Sims 2 folder to your desktop. Then start the game again. It will still work it will just spawn a completely "vanilla" clean game. If that works (doesn't freeze) then you know it is a CC problem. Delete the new Sims 2 folder and replace it with your old one but remove the Downloads folder (My Documents>EA Games>The Sims2>Downloads) Start the game. If that works replace half your downloads and start the game. It that works take those downloads out and put the other half in. Start your game. Keep cutting your downloads in half until you have narrowed down the culprit. It takes a while but it is better than reinstalling your entire game!

    3) Completely uninstall and reinstall your gamehttp://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title... This will give complete instructions on how to remove the files completely and do a clean reinstall. Make sure to patch after every EP!

Have you recently installed an expansion pack? If so, you should go to the websites and download a patch. If not, you might have to reinstall the game. Hope you have a backup.

I suggest that you need to see if your computer meets the requirements of the game.
