My friend's got very infected. She had to have it drained by a doctor and had to let it close up. They had to put a tube into the area (which drained into a bag) and she had to have that for like 3-4 days at home. meanwhile she had temperatures of 103-104 (F) and was very very sick. She had to take IV antibiotics for 3 of those days.

She didn't go in until she was very sick, she figured it was no big deal and would heal.

Now she has a nasty scar from the infection, ring, and drain, and no belly button ring to show for it.

She got it done at a very reputable place, I guess her immune system was just low or something.

Also, I agree that 13 is a little young to get something like that done. You may not want it by the time you graduate from high school!

Yes if done by an unlicensed piercer you piercing can come out crocked and with an infection. Make sure to get it pierced at a reputable place w/ pro piercers who use sterlized equippment and hollow needles.

Source(s): Have 10+ piercings including the navel piercing.

yes it can get infected and you will want to get a ring when you first get it done because it is easier to take care of and were clothes that arnt going to snag it, that hurts alot also i agree 13 is young to be getting body piercings

i think the only thing that could go wrong is if you don't go to a safe, clean place or experied place and it could get infected and you would have to take it out, or it should just be put in crooked.

yeh they can get infected or take a really long time to heal. plus the person who pierces it can do it wonky so the bar doesnt sit straight (thats what happened to me and it looked stupid)
