I cannot get my computer to detect my usb mic help!?

I have a gateway gt4024 and i just purchased a rocketfish headset with a mic. I tested the rocketfish on another computer and the mic worked instantly... Why cant i get it to work on another computer.. Both are running vista... any suggestions or do i need a sound card possibly to get the mic to work ? I had problems in the past with other mics on this same computer. Will a new sound card fix this? Any suggestions. thanks.

    You might need a new sound card. Also make sure the USB port is working.

    yeah, it does sound like you may need a sound card. you shouldn't have to pay more then $20 for one.
