my 2 year contract is up and it says i can upgrade

Yes you can. However you pay an upgrade fee $18 I think, plus you sign a new 2 year agreement and pay $200 for the new phone.

if it says you are eligible then yes you can upgrade however you will still have to go to the store to get the iphone and to activate it.
