Can I connect 2 computers directly to share files from one to another?

I have a Gateway computer that is about 4 yrs old and an older Gateway. The older model has photographs and other files that I would like to use but I don't want to have to set up another keyboard and monitor...can I connect or network the 2 computers in any way? The older model is not wireless capable.

    absolutely

All you have to do is put an ethernet cable between the two computers, if you want them to be connected to the internet then you will have to use a second ethernet card. one to the internet, one to the other computer.

Once the 2 computers are connected

    1. Go to the Setup Small Home Office Network Wizard

    2. Follow Instructions to set up

    3. When asked if you would like to enable file / printer sharing click yes.

    4. Finish

Yes but you need a special cable. It's called a "crossover cable" and lets you connect 2 computers without a router or hub. Then run the network setup wizard (Start>Programs>accessories) on both computers to configure file sharing.

Source(s): Did this before I had high-speed internet. You can also share dial-up this way.

If your going to one computer to another you need a cat 5 cable. They are like 10 dollars at most computer shops.

Then you just have to share the files you are wanting to share. you will find that there are some securitys you may need to change. and also when making the network you need one computer a host and another a guest

If you connect an ethernet cable between the 2 computers it will need to be a cross over cable. A standard cable will probably not work on a machine that old. Your other option is getting a little switch (preferably) or hub and connecting each PC to that (with a normal ethernet cable).

ensure you have record and Print Sharing set on each computing gadget. in case you have no longer have been given a router, swap or hub you should use a Crossover Ethernet Cable to connect the two right this moment at the same time...or set up an advert-Hoc instantaneous community between the two. you will could set up static IP addresses for each computing gadget additionally...and make confident they are on the comparable workgroup.
