Why do some husbands say or tell others of negative things about thier wives.?

There is no easy answer for this. I am inclined to think it is mainly to distract from your husband’s own short-comings. I was once in a marriage like this myself. I loved my ex-husbands family very much. Every holiday or birthday get together I always was so excited to see everyone and yet always had a sense of doom, too. It was kind of his family thing they 'jokingly' run each other down. It hurt regardless.

My belief is that your spouse should be your best friend and number one supporter. He should be your defender and not the antagonizer. We all have faults has human beings, male or female, and to exploit them for the sake of entertainment publically is unacceptable.

After some time I have now found a man who is kind to me as we are to be married later this year. He would sooner chew off his right arm than to humiliate me in the presence of others. The difference is he is a man and has character. I have now understood that some of the things I had gone through were not because of me.

This is true of you, too. This is his failing as a husband and a man, not yours. Although his family and his friends may smile or nod as his comments, I also believe that they see what it really is, also.

Tell him how it feels when he speaks about you in this way to others. If he cares, he will do everything he can to watch his forked tongue and begin to speak of your attributes. If he does not acknowledge this is hurtful and a valid issue for you, you must consider what is best for you overall. Remember that love does not hurt. I am wishing you all the best!

It's a function of shallow ego combined with extreme selfishness.

I fall into this category. I tell of negatve things about my wife because I do not want them to think when I argue on the phone or am having a bad day that it is all my fault.

The same reason some women do it to their husbands hon.They get tired of being mistreated by their wives.

Because they are not man enough to say it to your face!!! I am dead serious. Nebody that can talk behind a persons back need to be man or women enough to say it to that person they are talking about.

some do it to make themselves look better.. they prob have low self esteem so making themselves seem like the "better half" makes em feel better..

i am the opposite.. i tell everyone how perfect and wonderful my wife is.. it makes me look good that i scored such a perfect lady ;)

anyway...they do it as an outlet for their stress. women have this desire for us to tell them things that make them happy, even if it's not strictly the truth. i know my wife likes me to tell her 'little white lies' (her words, not mine) to make her happy.

so we $*%&! about it with our male friends. it's a form of therapy, not 'ego'.
