Should Joe Paterno Retire after the 2008 Season?

Joepa is a legendary coach of 43 years, but some ask him to retire. I just want to get a general public opinion on this arguement. Thanks. And

WE ARE... PENN STATE!!!

Big PSU fan myself. Was at the OSU game a couple weeks ago. Quite a letdown from a hype standpoint. Anyway, this question comes up all the time. What people don't realize is - Joe doesn't hardly do anything anymore anyway. He makes a couple punt or go for it decisions during the game and watches a little film. The rest is on the other guys. Joe put that program on the map though. He pretty much IS Penn State. Maybe he should retire, maybe he shouldn't...his game philosophies and offensive game planning are clearly outdated but after all he's done, he's earned the right to walk away when he chooses - even if the program suffers for a couple years while he's at the end of his tenure. People are calling for his head but they don't realize how much they'll miss him when he's gone.

He is a great coach but yeah he needs to retire. The game has changed a lot from when Paterno was his best and he and guys like Bowden are still stuck with their old coaching and recruiting tactics. And because of that both Penn State and FSU have not been up to their full potential the past few years.

No. I'm not a Penn State fan, but Paterno is a college football icon. So long as he's capable and willing to coach, he should, no matter how old he is.

Absolutely not. JoePa is a teacher, first and foremost, and so long as he can patrol a sideline, college football - and the men who play it - will benefit from his presence.

I'm an aggie, but I believe that he's a fine coach and that he's pretty good. Not better then our coach but keep him.

  • Yes. He is the reason Penn State sucks. I'm a buckeyes fan. He should have retired in 1908.

To guy above me: Not when it's costing his team victories

I think it is time to let go
