OMG im flippin out.?

On the advice of a friend and my mother im going to talk to get a psychological evaluation. I may have D.I.D., I have been named B.P.D. by a Naval Psychologist. If I get Mental Disability, how may that affect my life. I already have no job, I do not go to college, I finished high school. I am a Naval Vet with Honorable discharge. I am 24 years old. I haven't had a job in 4 years, my parent's suck, I have difficulty sustaining relationships. Do you think I qualify for mental disability. I don't want to feel damaged, even though I already do. It's a weird feeling. I am going this week.

Update:

Dissociative Identity Disorder, milder version of Multiple Personality Disorder.

Update 2:

Would smoking Marijuana impair my chances of obtaining Mentally Disabled Status.

Update 3:

Or Just Disability

Update 4:

The person with Down Syndrome had the job because he/she could spend 8 hours, 5 hours, however many hours, standing and putting groceries in little bags. It was a game for him, a way to stamp his mark in the world.

It's hard for me to stay mentally present and focus. I DO NOT WANT DRUGS< I JUST WANT A LITTLE HELP FROM THE GOVERNMENT.

To the ones that said you should get a job because people with Down Syndrome can hold a job...that's ridiculous! Mental illness and mental retardation are NOT the same (hence different names)!

Ok, now for the info that you are asking about...

It is up to your doctor to decide if you should receive disability related to your mental illness. Only your doctor can examine the severity of your symptoms and make judgement as to whether you can be stabalized to the point of being able to hold a job (even that may take a brief period of disability). Your doctor will also be involved in deciding how long you should stay on disability. Honestly, I am not sure if DID is recognized as a diagnosis that would allow you to receive disability (your doc would know)!

So, in a nutshell, you realy have to talk to your doctor about the details! Only your doc will have all of the info required to accurately answer your question!!!

    Good Luck!

I have seen down syndrome people with jobs. I feel confident you can get a job to. Go back to school and apply yourself and get a good job. Lots of people have mental disorders and take meds and they are able to function. Good luck
