How come archery an Olympic sport is never mentioned in any sport question , nor mentioned in Answers line up

And for those that say it is a dead sport think again there are over three thousand archery clubs in this country , and at least one in every town . Source GNAS. It is a sport that takes an enormus amount of concentration and stamina , It is also takes great skill to reach world class . Yet it is treated as second cousin to tiddly winks . Even the line up of sports on answers there is no mention of it

Update:

For all those that say it is boring , You obviosly have never participated ,I lived in Sweden for two years, there it is one of the main sports , If i didnt que by five in the morning of the compitition i didn,t get in , So much for boring. As for only two per club there is 105 members in my club , and we are only one of five clubs in the area. The bowler there is always one like you . My sport is growing faster than any sport at this time,we get five aplications every week , and we are in the process of building an archery stadium , and i say that archery should be on the national cericulum and take its place as an olympic sport .

Update 2:

Looking at the general trend of these replies that many people are making an assumtion about a sport without every trying to understand its game plan . many sports are on the face of it boring if you do not understand the aim of its players IE, curling sliding lumps of stone down ice lanes, darts little differance to archery but less skillful, bowls always thought off as an old peoples sport, cricket untill you appreciate the skill a total bore, babmington taping a feather dart to and fro. all these have one thing in common untill the media bought them to the public attention were all assumed to be a total bore. now look at them all have a large following . My sport will never do well untill it gets the surport and coverageit needs.

Update 3:

Sorry about the spelling computor playing up.

Update 4:

For those that say it is not a spectator sport and those that say it is boring , and the sceptics. look on you tube then go to archerytv, then see how it is done in other countries

Olympic Track and Field events are given a lot of airtime, but not Archery -- and that's just not right. Track and Field is every bit as boring and unimaginative as anything I have ever sat through....

Speaking of boring and unimaginative, look at racing: Any eedjit can drive a car around in circles at an excessive rate of speed...it's done on U.S. highways every day. Football (American football) -- the object is to get the "ball" across the line at the opposite end of the field; not much real excitement there. Same with baseball: Hit ball with stick, run a circuit around inside area of the field before ball is caught by players on other team.

    BORING!!

The point of this? Just that because YOU don't participate in/enjoy watching a particular sport, it doesn't mean that sport isn't a valid REAL sport. Why are only the sports which often result in injury/death to the participants given any real airtime -- is it because all "we" as Humans want to see is blood and mayhem?

Oh, and "not a big base of people who do archery"? Last time I participated in a local competition, there were at least 200 people "doing archery" -- and that was a CASUAL competition. How big is the base of people who drive NASCAR, Indy or Formula One -- and how many are able to do so in CASUAL competition, as opposed to the number of people who just watch, waiting for someone to crash?

Even Ski-Jump gets more airtime than Archery, and it's just people skiing down a long freakin' ramp to see who can go the farthest. Now that is truly boring.

Well, I'm an archer, an Olympic style archer to boot. But I would have to say yea, it's not exactly a spectator sport. There's nothing else in the world I'd rather do than to stand on a tournament field and shoot 288 arrows for a double FITA. But I wouldn't want my family or anyone that has no clue about the sport to have to endure watching that.

I'll tell you this though, the sport is growing. The 20's through 60's was our golden age, where you see archery practiced everywhere. Now, I think it's making a comeback. it's getting more airtime at the Olympics, look back to 2000, how much airtime did it receive from NBC, very little. 2004 was a bit better, 2008, HEY! I see Jenny Nichols being one of the featured athlete on their page.

If you look at the population of archers, in the US for example. Total population is over 200 million, how many archers registered with the NAA, 3000 and NFAA is slightly better at 40,000, but still a tiny fraction of the country.

I am familiar with the new Olympic round format. Which I think is a mistake. It's done solely to draw in spectators, make it more exciting. If it achieved that goal ...well, then it might be worth it. But I'd take a double FITA anyday compared to that. It's too erratic, any lucky bloke can shoot a 110 and knock out a better shooter that is having a bad day. One unlucky gust can mean the difference between making it past a round or going home. That is just not right.

Maybe Outdoor recreation other then that why I think it's great your passionate about Archery ,as I never like to talk down another persons sport, it just doesn't have the same level of interest as say Athletics, Swimming and Gymnastics.

If one country is Archery mad then it would have to be S.Korea or Bhutan.

Yes there is 1,000 clubs unlike shooting it is not a NCAA sport with no Archery Championships.Does any state have it as a HS Varsity Sport.

There's 2 major reasons why there's no mention of Archery. 1) There's not a big base of people who do archery. 3,000 clubs is not a lot.. how many members per club? 2) It's not a sport people can relate to. Many people have never even shot a bow. And there's not too many people who can bust out a bow and go shoot outside.

And it's pretty boring. Shooting at a target is not very dramatic. How many times can someone watch that?

I am sure this ancient sport is a fine sport to participate in, and I hope it draws a good crowd to Lord's Cricket Ground at the London 2012 Olympics.

But, alas, as a spectator sport, it fails to capture the imagination.

There are more bowlers than archers, but you don't see that sport represented all that much either.

They just don't have the backing.

I love archery myself. Watching it that is, I don't care for participating in it though.

LMAO the guy above with this "he's holding the stick.... he's placed it in the bendy stick.... he's pulling the string..... the stick flies out of the bendy stick" rinse and repeat.

made me laugh my *** off, haha, its an ok sport but surely needs some more activity to win a big fan base
