Has "liberal" become a dirty word in our country?

It certainly seems that way to me. I know I "feel" dirty when I say it. How about you? Do you think "liberal" is a dirty word? Do you use it that way?

I'd rather be called an A$$hole than a Liberal.

NO, and your comment sounds quite familiar, wonder where I've heard it before???

    ahhh yess.....

Today Christians ... stand at the head of [this country]... I pledge that I never will tie myself to parties who want to destroy Christianity .. We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit ... We want to burn out all the recent immoral developments in literature, in the theater, and in the press - in short, we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of liberal excess during the past ... (few) years.

Not at all. I am a proud liberal.

If there is any label that people absolutely run from these days, it is "neo con." I can't think of a filthier political term in America today.

For the most part now-a-days Liberal is more Synonymous with Communism than open-mindedness. It didn't use to be that way but today's liberals are about as open minded as the NeoCons.

    NOPE

Only the new right, who wants to blame every bad aspect of the extreme right on liberals feels that way.

Most people who cry and cry about liberals, have absolutely no clue what liberalism is.

The day liberal becomes a bad word, is the day that people begin to lose their rights to nationalist movement that the extreme right has delusions of being a majority movement in this country.

Absence of liberalism is what happened in nazi Germany, and what terrorist are trying to achieve in the middle east right now.

Conservative propaganda has been trying feverishly to make it so but, fortunately, their efforts have met with failure.

Incessant personal attacks on liberals as a group cannot substitute for a lack of coherent ideas.

...I thought it always was a dirty word. Ick...feeling the need to hurl just running the word through my head.

The right wing propaganda radio and the lemmings who listen to it who can't think for themselves use the word in a vain attempt to slam other people. It doesn't work, at least not for intelligent folks who think for themselves.
