No one was killed, but a lot of cave men got shrapnel wounds. They later introduced legislation against cluster bombs, land mines, and abrupt trans-species genetic mutations.

Gazillions of the 35 different basic animal body plans, corresponding to different phyla were just being born half a billion years ago, so there must have been tons and tons of people killed then. :).

Zero. There were no people back then. It was not a catastrophe. It was an explosion of new species.
