what really is the point of moving marion?

im just not getting the reason behind putting marion out there on these trade rumors with odom and artest. what advantages do the heat get in doing this? they all have 1 year left in their contracts if not mistaken, and how are either one going to be a better fit for the heat?

Update:

if theyre trying to save money, then keeping marion and waiting and letting him go next year would be a better idea in my opinion. then theyll have the money to go after boozer. i do not see beasley becoming anything as a pf, i believe they will try to shift him to sf. if they trade for artest, then they would also need some other player to even out the money, artest only gets 7 mil while marion makes 17.

Update 2:

marion wants a big 20 mil per year contract, theres no way hes staying with the lakers if he ends up there. contenders? he was with one for years and got mad because he got tired of being the 3rd option.

Update 3:

theyre all rumors, just saying if they are true that he is being shopped, then what reasoning would they have for this?

    What up Greg,

I think the reasoning behind moving Marion is to save money for the future when they have to re-sign Dwayne Wade (when he can opt out in 2010) and also if Beasley turns out to be a star as anticipated when they have to re-sign him it will be for Max. Money.

They have a log jam a Forward with: Beasley, Haslem, and Marion.

If they trade for Artest or Odom (they will get rid of Marion's $17 million contract- and be able to re-sign one of these guys for much less). Artest gives them the defensive presence that Marion is that can guard guys like Pierce and LBJ and it will cost them a lot less- Odom gives them flexibility and had one of his best years with Wade and Riley in Miami- and so they would get some stability as well as a veteran presence that has made deep runs in the playoffs.

i wouldn't necessarily say that either of these guys are better fits- but money-wise they may not be able to keep Marion so they want to get the most for him and put themselves in a position to re-sign Wade in a couple of years.

Marion want a long term contract with contending team. I think Miami is looking to rebuild so they are shopping him to see if they can get couple good young talents. I'm pretty sure Miami isn't going to trade Marion for Odom or Artest straight up. They are not that stupid.

All three of their contract expire at the end of next season so it's all the same to Miami. And they know that Marion>>>Odom or Artest.

Other than yahoo answers I haven't heard anything about this "Marion Trade" i think it is just Lakers Fans hoping they get someone as good as him!! Now the Artest thing I have heard all over the place and is likely to happen but not a sure thing. Moving Marion makes no sense for the Heat and I don't see any advantage of doing that, it would make ZERO sense.

i don't get it either. marion was thought to be one of the best all-around players but people thinks he needed to be with nash to sufcceed that way. why not give it a year and find out? out of those 3 players he is by far the best fit for miami, and gets in the way of beasley's development the least so they really should keep him, at least for this year.

and should beasley really be hanging out with ron in his rookie year? i don't think so.

Amen. I'm a Miami fan and I can't see the point in that. We should just keep him for one year, let his $17 Mill. contract expire, and go and sign a good free agent next year...

Expiring contract and can get some value for him.
