Pharmacy Technician--worth it???

I am in CA and thinking about taking a $1800 class at CSU East Bay to get a certificate and prepare for the exam. In CA a license is also required.

My question is: is the pay worth the hassle? I see most PT's start out at $13/hr. at the most. I would be most interested in working at a hospital. Anyone with experience have any thoughts? I am doing a Ph.D. program online, so this would be just a job until I complete my degree.

Thanks for any feedback.

If you think it's something you would enjoy doing, go for it. It may be a good job to fall back on if you become unemployed for a time - medical professionals will ALWAYS be in demand.

I think it's worth it, pharmacy technicians are one of the top 10 part time jobs that are sought for, and there's a reason for that. Once you finish your program, you will be able to get a job easy becaue there is a huge shortage, 1800 is nothing compared to what you will be getting back out of your work. Well good luck peace.

    Go to bls.gov

Bureau of labor and statistics will give you the pay for your area, working conditions, job outcomes and if it is expected to grow or decline in the next few years as well as educational requirements needed.

Does the school have a career services department that will help you find a job, apply, write a resume?

    That's is helpful inn succeeding.
