Yankees agree to terms with Richie Sexson... Thoughts?

If you are going to say something stupid, please don't waste your time....

He's hitting .344 against leftys this year and that is when he will play. Hopefully negating the "bring anyone who throws lefthanded up from the minors when the Yankees come to town" method. I think its a win win, he won't be any worse than Betemit, and if he decides he wants to prove something, Cash looks like a genius signing him for the league minimum.

What do you think?

    Sexson 2008

    v. lefties: .344 / .423 / .623, 21 hits in 61 AB, 2 2B, 5 HR.

    v. righties: .178 / .281 / .304, 34 hits in 191 AB, 6 2B, 6 HR.

If Girardi EVER starts him against a RH pitcher, he should be fired before the second inning.

    Yankees remaining schedule:

Oakland -- 3 games -- LH starters (as of today): two

    Minnesota -- 6 games -- one

    Boston -- 9 games -- two

    Baltimore -- 9 games -- two

    Angels -- 10 games -- one

    Rangers -- 4 games -- one

    KC -- 3 games -- one

    Toronto -- 9 games -- zero

    Detroit -- 1 game -- two

Tampa Bay -- 6 games -- one, and he's Scott Kazmir.

    Seattle -- 3 games -- one.

    White Sox -- 4 games -- two.

67 games, and the Yankees might face a southpaw starter, oh, 19 times. Give Sexson 3.5 AB average in those games, that's 67 AB. Keep up that .344 AVG (let's use .350) and he delivers 23 hits (while remaining useless against RH pitchers).

He can fill a very specific hole (and his cost is negligible, but that's the way these things go; Cashman doesn't get credit for being a fiscal genius here), but he's not going to be the difference between third and first place, possibly not between third and second place.

You're grasping for straws, but go ahead and enjoy Sexson in pinstripes.

That's their downfall for this season. Signing a journeyman with marginal offensive skills over the career and season HR leader.....

Sexson bombed with Seattle and Milwaukee and will probably do just as bad with NY.

What a mistake..... Go Red Sox!!!!!

Interesting signing. Sexson has struggled all season and so have the Yanks. This will probably not go in the Yanks' favor.

Well if he is only in against the Lefties i have no problem with it and he DId sign him for the League Minimum which is chump change for the Yankees

I dunno man... he's really not that good at hitting... maybe use him as a defensive replacement in late innings.... he's really not that far from AAA level hitter. Free Swinger... lucky if he hits... But then again the Yanks need a real 1b, and that's about the only thing he offers so... yeah it is win win for the money and the pick up of an experienced 1b.

I think he'll be gone by September.

    Yankees signing Sexson = Desperation

i cant believe htey got him for the league minimum and didnt give him 4 years at 8 million a year

im glad to see they went out and got someone off FA who isnt named barry bonds..they didnt have to give up any prospects in a trade and they saved a boatload of cash

hopefully sexson can bat better than the .218 and 30 RBIs in 74 games with the mariners

its good that they got him for cheap. he used to be a good player and you never know what can happen. he can turn everything around and become a great player in new york. the yanks still need to gain a starting pitcher as well though. we will see if cashman makes any deals by the 31st.

Not too much to lose if you get him for the league min
