Do you follow Minor League baseball?

Personally, I'm partial to Major League baseball, but I try to keep up with the Red Sox' Minor League teams. I've been to a couple of Pawtucket games...and they've both reinforced my opinion that Jed Lowrie was basically wasting his time in the Minors when the Red Sox CLEARLY need him in the Majors. lol.

Anyways...I'm just wondering. You can just answer with "Yes" or "No." You don't have to elaborate unless you want to.

I am a Nationals fan, so I have to follow the minor league team, the Potomac Nationals. The reason is two fold.

1.) Something like 70% of the Nats starters are injured and are being rehab'd in Potomac.

2.) The Nats are so horrible that I'm hoping for the future.

Being a Nationals fan isn't easy. They are creative in finding new ways to lose. They hand games to the other team. Their announcers are horrible (I can't get the Nationals radio network with Charlie Slows, he rocks). They do have a new stadium, which I've been to, and that is cool.

D.C. in general isn't a very conducive location for sports, except for the Redskins, who I can't stand. If my family wasn't stuck here I would probably move. I've heard Boston is a beautiful city and the climate is much better suited to me because I like snow and hate hot weather. I've also heard Boston is a young town. And that the people there are smart because there are so many colleges.

But I've heard that they are bad drivers. I'm used that that tho... so I think when/if I ever become rich, I'm moving to Boston, maybe New York City, but I'm not sure I can give up my losing Nats.

Source(s): Oops, I corrected it, should have read I hate HOT weather. Obviously you can't like snow and hate the cold. Sorry!

I follow an independant minor league, the Frontier League. There are two teams within 30 miles of where I live. The Gateway Grizzlies in Sauget, Il and River City Rascals (my team) in O'Fallon, Mo. The league currently has 5 alumni on major league rosters George Sherrill -Evansviile to Baltimore, Justin Christian River City to New York Yankees, Joe Thatcher River City to San Diego, Mike Cervanek Chillicothe to Phiadelphia and Josh Kinney (DL) River City to St. Louis.

Oh, yes!!! I pay a lot of attention! My home team is the Kane County Cougars. I live only 15-20 minutes from their stadium and I go to around 20 games a year. My sister works there and I will work there next year, so she gets 2 free tickets to every game. I just go with her early a lot of the time, sit outside the park until it opens, and go in and get autographs! And minor leaguers sign a bunch of autographs because there is only about 3 people there getting autographs and the others don't care because they don't know the players yet. I try to make one game per series, and that's it. But I have gotten to meet and talk to some nice players. They go up to the Oakalnd A's. I spend about 20 minutes a day just looking at the good prospects and how each team is doing. The A's and Rays have got some great players coming up in 5 years. And the Cougars just got Jemille Weeks, the 8th overall pick in the draft, and whose brother is Rickie Weeks. I will get his autograph! And I just got Ryne Sandberg's autograph when he came last week. He is the manager of another team. So that's it!

Sorry for carrying on so long! :)

Oh, and it's cool to see some of the players that played in Kane County. Dontrelle Willis, Migues Cabrera, and Josh Beckett all played there! I wish I got their autographs!

Watch for Craig Italiano and Trevor Cahill, two great players!

I follow all of the MLB as close as I can. But as a Sox fan, I have an interest in their farm system and always checking on prospects, draft picks, etc.

And as much as Lugo has sucked, I'd rather give Lowrie as much time as he needs to develop before calling him up for good. On another note, it'll be interesting to see Masterson's transition to the bull pen goes.

I would go to Paw Sox games if they didn't sell out so much and I lived a little closer (I live about 5 miles north of Boston). But I do try to get to some Spinners (single A) games.

No, i dont. But i did watch the Sea Dogs game today and i would definately go to a spinners or paw sox game. I'm also going to the futures at fenway game and i'm really excited for that. I have front row field box seats right next to the visitors dugout! I really hope that Brandon Moss and Lowrie are sent back down so that i can see them, but then i want them called back up right after...lol

Not so much. I check occasionally to see how the Texas teams are doing. I'd love to make it out to one of the minor league games but I live 30 mins from were the Rangers play and the Rough Riders (the minor league only team I can honestly say I'm interested in) play in Frisco and that is WAY north of here.

So I guess my answer is kinda. lol.

Not really, I follow the person they bring up from the minors to the major league. Major league is so much more intense than the minors are, so follow them when being called up to the majors is huge because you dont want the new pitcher or fielder to mess up.

Edit: I live almost an hour from paw red sox so i could go see them if i wanted to.

Not really. I will try and keep track of certain players that are on the verge of getting called up. But overall I don't follow minor league baseball. I have been to a few Staten Island Yankee games but that's mostly because my dad gets free tickets all the time.

  • Yes, I love following the guys in the farm. I'm a huge Jonny Gomes fan since he played with Durham Bulls. Same with Braves farm. And since Richmond Braves are moving right around the corner I will go see them too. It's nothing like watching players go from draft through the ranks to the majors.

I don't follow the minors overall as much as I do MLB. But my team is the Cubs, and I do live less than an hour from their AAA team in Des Moines. I do follow them closely, and try to attend at least a few of their games every year.
