Getting tubes tied after labor?

Im preggo with number three and my two previous births were vaginal. Is it unheard of to ask your doctor to schedule a C-Section if you've never had one before. I just want to go in deliver and then get my tubes tied. I dont feel the need to go through the vaginal birth then have to go into surgery.

Update:

Yes please let me know what the doctor says. I'd rather just get it all done at once. LOL

It is not unheard of to ask your doctor for a first time C-Section, but it is not necessary. Usually you will have an epidural, deliver vaginally and then go to the OR with the epidural plus a stronger med to make you more comfortable higher up. A small incision will be made by your belly button, the tubes will be located, tied and cut, all of this through an incision that is small enough to be covered with a bandaid.

If you have never had an epidural before I suggest getting one so that you can get your tubes tied immediately after the birth of your baby.

Your tubes cannot be tied vaginally. A C-Section is major surgery, a tubal relatively mild.

Still talk to your doctor to make sure of his/her procedures and the hospital procedures. This is what happened at the hospitals that I have work at.

EDIT: The procedure that some people are talking about is not like getting your tubes tied. They insert a spring or something like that in through the uterus to scar the tube, there is no cutting and the effect is not immediate. You will still need birth control for about 2 months or so and check ups to make sure that the tube is scarring because just like healing, everybody scars at a different rate.

Good luck and I hope this helps all who need it.

    Tubes Tied After Birth

Do not have a c section just to have your tubes tied. Having that done does not require surgery anymore. They make a small hole in your belly button and do it arthroscopicly. Talk it over with your doctor . But most times they can do it after delivery. Good luck

Interesting question. I'm planning on the same thing. Another great question for me to ask the doctor tomorrow. I'll let you know what he says.

Edit~~So I just got off the phone with my sister and here's what they did for her... She had an epidural, and after she had her last daughter, they took her to an operating room and performed the procedure through her belly button. She said it only took like a half an hour and she was back in her room. I imagine this is still a common practice, since her youngest is only 8. I'll let you know if my doc says anything different tomorrow.

Edit #2~~Yep, that's likely what they'll do. It also depends on which hospital you deliver in. Catholic hospitals will not allow a doctor to do sterilization procedures. That's part of the reason why I'm delivering where I am.

Yes u can ask for a c-section, but am not to sure about having your tubes tied on the same op. This is a life changing decision and you will have been through so much with the pregnancy. Do u think it would be better on you if your partner got his tied instead.

A C-Section might not be necessary..... there is a way to get your tubes tide without opening you up, they go thru your belly button, my mom had that done. It does the same thing but has less recovery time and with a new baby that might be something to consider. But it isnt crazy to ask for a C-Section if thats what you want.

They can tie your tubes vaginally. Depending on how your dr prefers to do things they can do it then or later. Some drs will go ahead and tie your tubes directly after delivery and others will wait til the next day or longer if you want. Good luck and just talk things over with your dr.

any good doctor will give his/her patient what they need or in this case ask for seeing that the c section already has you open its alot easier for the doc to do everything at once rather than wait a day or two and most doctors like quick things now days
