What to do in Indianapolis?

Indianapolis is my home and I can tell you for sure it is a very fun place indeed. It does have a great zoo and White River State park in downtown Indy is a great place to take the kids. We also have great night clubs here in Indy. I would recommend Tiki Bob's on S Meridian Street its a very awesome place to go dancing and have a drink and mingle. We also have a very huge mall which is called Circle Centre its in downtown Indy on Washington Street. If your a fan of basketball and the Indiana Pacers I would recommend visiting Conseco Fieldhouse home of the Pacers. They have a wonderful giftshop with all kinds of Pacer merchandise there and they have a starbucks next to the giftshop where you can relax and have a cup of coffee after shopping. If you come during football season I would definately recommend seeing the Indianapolis Colts play. I have seen them play a few times and there is nothing like going to a Colts football game. At the very center of Indianapolis is the "State Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument" (1902), designed by Bruno Schmitz (1858-1916), Germany's foremost architect of national monuments. Completed in 1901, the Monument appears to be Schmitz's only commission outside of Germany and Switzerland. Most of the bronze and stone sculptures on the Monument were designed, executed and manufactured by Germans. The limestone sculptures are the work of Vienna-born sculptor Rudolf Schwarz (1866-1912). The bronze Army Astragal sculptural band above the monument base was designed by Nicolaus Geiger (1849-1897) of Berlin. The Astragal and the eight candelabra were manufactured in Berlin. The State Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument was dedicated in 1902 to Indiana's heroes who died in wars before World War I. Erected as a memorial to the soldiers and sailors of the War for the Union (1861-65), it also commemorates the War with Mexico (1846-48), Indian and British Wars (1811-12), War of the Revolution and the capture of Vincennes from the British on February 25, 1779. The Monument rises from a circular plaza, 342 feet in diameter, where once stood the governor's house--but where no governor ever lived. At the lower level of the Monument is a Civil War exhibit. I would definately recommend checking out the Monument Circle Gift Shop and the Museum Located underneath the Monument underground. You can also take the elevator up to the very top of the Monument for only a dollar per person or you can take the stairs to the top. I would highly recommend paying the dollar for the elevator because it is a very long way up. It is a very beautiful view of the city up there. You can see all around Indianapolis from the very top of Monument Cirlce and it is my very favorite place in all of the City. I would also recommend visiting Indianapolis' Hard Rock Cafe located at 49 South Meridian Street it is right down the street from the Monument. Hard Rock Cafe is a great place to eat they have great food and you can enjoy good music while eating. Indianapolis is a very nice place to visit and a very nice place to live and I hope you enjoy your visit to The Circle City.

The Broad Ripple area might be fun- lots of vintage and indie shops there. It's a good place to find cool unusual clothing and gifts and there are lots of little cafes. If nothing else, it's just fun to walk around.

Also, there is Conner Prairie, an interactive living history museum, north of Indy off Allisonville Rd. It's basically a replica of a 19th century pioneer settlement complete with "settlers" in period dress who interact with visitors. I haven't been in a long time, but it's great fun.

Of course, there is also the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and museum, if you're at all interested in auto racing.

The Indiana State Fair happens in August. It's a pretty big event with lots of carnival rides, food, animals, exhibits, shows, and sometimes celebrity appearances.

I also recommend the Indianapolis Museum of Art. In addition to the museum itself, the campus includes many gardens and outdoor sculptures. Students up through college get into the museum free, so it's a good activity if you're trying to save a buck.

I really enjoy the Children's Museum and I don't even have kids.

I find the Indy Zoo disappointing compared to the D.C. Zoo.

However right next to the Zoo is White River Park and bunch of great Musuems.

And in the same area is Victory Field and Indianapolis Indians baseball!

Indianapolis has a great zoo, and the Indianpolis Childrens' Museum is a fun place to visit, I've taken my son there twice (its a 2 hour drive from us in NW Indiana). Also, here is the link to White River State park, in downtown Indy. Lots to do there as well. Hope you have a nice time!

i also will reccomend the childrens museum. Also i live in a little place called Irvington not to far from downtown Indianapolis and they have a lot of places to eat and to shop at.
