Will Windows XP x86 work on a x64 computer?

Because I am thinking of upgrading my computer part and I am thinking of having a 64-bit computer so that I could have bettere performances and other better stuff.... But my current XP is a x86 (32-bit) one.... would it be able to work on a 64-bit specs?

If ever it does what limitations would there be? Please tell me if it can, if ever it will not work even just for a short time until I get a Vista x64, I would have till I have the Vista x64.... But if does work, I would go on with my plans... Thanks for the help! I just need a few days after I get the Vista x64 after I buy the new parts... So it would be fine with me if there are some limitations as long as I can run XP x86 on a x64 system....

Of course. Even if MS is not able to make a good 64 bits working OS - just look at linux distro or MacOS-X which are both available in a working 64 bits version - Windows Vista x86 will work on 64bits CPUs.

99,9% of bundled - illegal in some countries - Windows sold with PC are 32 bits version, even if CPUs are all 64 bits enabled since end of 2005 or so...

Just to clarify, x86 doesn't refer to 32 or 64bit, it refers to the instruction set of the most commercially successful CPU architecture in personal computing.

Modern x86-hardware usually has 64-bit capabilities, at least in personal computers and servers. However, to avoid compatibility problems, x86-software usually implies only 32-bit, with the term x86-64 or x64 reserved to denote 64-bit software.

I have a 64bit CPU and I am running 32bit XP and no probs whatsoever.

It works perfectly without any problems on my Athlon64. Probably you wont be able to use more than 4GBs of RAM but yes, it'll run without any problems at all.
