I bought a PCI network card (wired) however, it does not fit on the case with the bracket included. So I unscrewed the bracket and mounted the card into the PCI slot. Powerup system, and Ubuntu does detect the card however it can't connect to my network. Cables are fine and they work. So I wonder if this is a problem with Ubuntu or be removing it from the case bracket so that it is mounted steadily on the case.

We found a Blackberry Bold 9700 and still seems to be working. It has a sim card, and still seems to be active. However, no one is calling it anymore, and we can't access the phone because it is password protected. We were hoping if we could see the contacts, we could find someone to give the phone back to it's owner. But, yeah, we can't.

Can we unlock the phone and use it on another network (and use internet services such as BBM) or does Telus blacklist the phone (IMEI) and PIN and we could no longer use the phone at all?

My volume goes down on it's own... Master volume is OK, however, certain applications, such as Totem, VLC, Movie Player, has their volume go down on it's own... I volume them up, but they go down on their own... Tried my best to try and fix this, but found nothing to fix.

Other applications, however, still work OK, such as Chromium, Miro, and Tweetdeck, all have their volumes ok. They never go down on their own...

Any help? Thanks.... Tried removing and installing alsa and the other mixer, but still no fix. Hope you can help.

I was recording something on my phone when it inadvertently ran out of battery and shut itself off. The recording was cut off and the file is there. Unfortunately, it can't be played on any player I have (VLC, Media Player, Quicktime) and can't be read by my standard video conversion tools.

I usually do this so I already know how to use these 3GP video files, and how to convert them successfully. But, now this is an issue.... Any solution on how to fix it or how to play it?

I'd like a program that can display the weather AND display feeds (RSS, Facebook, etc) full screen so that I can have it on the computer I run so that it displays that while it is not in use. Kinda like how those things you see that shows tickers of news in public places like the mall...

I'd like if its free, but if it does need to be paid, I'd want a cheap one... or if any, just pitch in any suggestion.... Thanks!

I have installed ubuntu on my quite old machine. It's not that old, but it's working sweet and fine. However, I can't connect to ANY wireless network at all. It can recognize and use my USB wireless receiver, which is a Linksys WUSB100 v1. I suspect that Ubuntu can't really make it work even if it seems to be working fine.

I can't get it to work even if I compile my own drivers. I can't even seem to compile it, or maybe I did but I just can't do that part where I should install the compiled driver.

So I am looking for a work around if any. I don't want to buy a new wireless receiver since if I do then the current one will be useless. There is also the NDISwrapper, if I am right, which should also be able to make it work. So, if I can make it work that way, I need a good set of instructions for that since I can't find a good instruction for that.

I am using the latest Ubuntu which is Lucid Lynx 10.04.

If there are pictures of someone who was still under legal age when it was taken, it is child pornography, right? Now, what if that person is now of legal age, keeping those pictures is still considered child pornography... right? Even if it was consentingly given way back of the person in the picture, the person shouldn't keep it right? Now, the person in the picture wants those pictures be destroyed. It is just but legal to do so right? and it is against the law to keep those material, right?

Ok, my question is that if I can simply put the old PATA/IDE drive as slave into the new computer and there would not be any problems. The old PATA drive was previously the boot drive of the old computer. and I haven't done anything to since the old computer broke, because I need the data from that drive.

My problem is that there might be a conflict with booting from the two drives since they are not configured for dual booting. If I set the old drive as slave, the system will not boot to it right? and I should be able to proceed with normal boot and the old drive will appear as a normal drive.

If I am right, please confirm. And if not, please post as solution to allow me to recover data from the old drive, without actually booting to it. Thanks.

Ok, I bought a new video card and installed it. I previously had an ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO, and no problems. Now I installed a ATI Radeon HD 4650, and the system would no longer boot. After sevarl tries, I went to look up stuff on the internet and discovered that the new video card I have needs a 450W power supply and a 6 pin connector for the mother board to power the card (which I don't have in my current configuration)

No, when I setup back to my previous setup, same thing, it no longer works. I have tried to remove the RAM, and it will still be able to detect that I have no RAM installed. So everything seems fine, but I could no longer even load BIOS and there is no POST. Monitor works fine, but everything just powers up, fans spin and drives seems to work, but I have nothing on screen and the fans do not slow down like it used to. Because usually it the fans would slow down once POST starts.

so what could have been wrong? anything I might have damage that needs to be replaced?

I need a program that can sort my almost a Terabyte worth of files which is mostly composed of pictures into individual folders arranged by date. Or so.

I badly need it because I have this huge folder of files containing several kinds of files and finding the right file is completely insane. And the file names aren't friendly, so I need to sort them into dates...

I need a free program that will organize my archive of photos into it's own folder sorted by the date they are taken. Are there any programs that you can recommend?

My platform is Windows. I do not need to edit the pictures, I just need to sort them into folders. My extremely large archive has become much messy that's why I need a program to do it for me now.

I am a student in a college and I just got into the school's access to MSDNAA (Microsoft Developer network - Academic Alliance) and found that I can download and use Windows 7 for free. Now i'm wondering if Windows 7 copy I have would stop working once I am no longer a part of the school, because I am finishing my course (which probably is after 3 years because I just started).

Any ideas? thanks. I am planning to buy Windows 7 so if it will eventually stop working, I'd rather buy that use the "free" copy.

I get this runtime error and it says at line 13 there is no error number which is weird.... also, It says something about something is undefined... also, it says that it is out of memory or something something simmilar... I tried to uninstall it several times, including all Yahoo programs in my computer and re-install it but same thing.... anyone who can help? apparently, the error reporting in the yahoo messenger is unable to send the error because it also encounters an error when it attempts to send the error report.....

Because I am thinking of upgrading my computer part and I am thinking of having a 64-bit computer so that I could have bettere performances and other better stuff.... But my current XP is a x86 (32-bit) one.... would it be able to work on a 64-bit specs?

If ever it does what limitations would there be? Please tell me if it can, if ever it will not work even just for a short time until I get a Vista x64, I would have till I have the Vista x64.... But if does work, I would go on with my plans... Thanks for the help! I just need a few days after I get the Vista x64 after I buy the new parts... How many monitors could you possibly attach to one system unit? First is for a standard desktop computer next is the other one is for a modded rig and a possibly server type or mainfraime type of computer. Or if possible a special build computer.

I wanted to remove a program in my computer... There was no link in the Start menu of that program to its own Uninstall application. So I opened the control panel to open the add/remove programs, BUT IT JUST DOESN'T OPEN! I tried it several times but it still doesn't open! BTW, I already removed the program I wanted to be removed but the Add/Remove Program still doesnt open! I need it for some programs that I need to remove in the future and to add some windows components. (I do not want a work around for what I want to do, please.... I want the Add/remove program way, and I WANT THE ADD/REMOVE PROGRAM back!)

I've been using YM 9.0 Beta for quite a while now. It was great till I noticed that annoying sound every time I open a new Message Chat window. It was quite annoying because aside from being a bad sound, I don't like to have that.

It always happen when a new chat window opens, either I receive an IM or I open a chat window to communicate.

It really bugs me. Is there a way to remove it or at least change it?
