What are Texas Tech's chances to go to the National Championship this year?
Yes, I go to Tech, and I want to know what other people think about our chances to get to the National Championship game (for football). I know we could be a contender, but how good do people really think we are?

I think your team is very good but getting through their Big 12 schedule and making it to the National Championship game?
The defense is suspect as usual and the general consensus is that defenses win championships. The Sooners will be looking to buff up their national image after two straight loses in the Fiesta Bowl and you guys do play them in Norman. Texas will also be looking to prove that they are a better team than the pre-season polls show.
If the Red Raiders can run the Big 12 field then they should be in the national championship hunt. Harrell and Crabtree should light up the Texas sky though. Lotta fireworks with that duo.

I'm a Tech student also, so I know the team pretty well. We have a legitimate shot at making it. The only problem is that we have to get through a good OU team, an up and coming OK state team (who we have at home thank goodness; the home team has won the past few years), and an always contending UT. Tech also has at least one brain fart every year, like CU last year.
The concerns of most people is the defense. Well the defense is pretty solid with Jamar Wall. Ruffin McNeil improved the defense big time when he took over. The key will be the LB and D line. we need to stop the running the running game and get pressure on the qb.

Not very good. If I remeber right Texas Tech is in the Big 12 South. That means you have to get by Texas and OU. Also while you guys are starting off the season ranked there would have to be a lot of upsets for you guys to move up to either 1 or 2 in the polls. Will Texas Tech go to a bowl yes, will it be a BCS bowl, no.

Probably Not. Ohio State and Georiga is my pick to be playing in the National Championship this year. Texas Tech could get into a good Bowl game but I cant see their offense standing up to a great defensive team like Ohio State.

As much as you'd like to that they could, TTU will never be a NC contender, they have a habit of losing many of the big important games. Two years ago, they were undefeated when going against Texas, and they were having a great season. They ended up losing 52-17 I believe, I can't remember the exact score, but they got their asses handed to them. They lost only one more game that season and to a very crappy OSU, they could've gone to a BCS that year but that game cost them. I see TTU doing that again this year. They are going to probably going to be undefeated when going against Texas, but they again are going to have trouble with one item...Texas offense. They have a pass and run game that is hard to stop and they have high scoring games even against good teams. If Tech somehow stopped the offense then they could win, because other teams have trouble with Tech's high powered pass offense. It is a matter of who's defense is better and who can stop who's offense. Whoever has the most in the end of the game, of course wins, it's a shootout with teams like OU, Texas, and Kansas. They should should lose only three games most this year, but yes....if they somehow beat #2 OU, #15 Kansas and #10 Texas, then yeah, a NC will be something to look at....there's a chance, but don't hold your breath.

Tech's got a decent team, but getting into the National Title game would require them to pull a string of upsets, several on the road. Oklahoma is the most likely favorite to win the Big 12 and Tech plays them in Norman this year, and Oklahoma will be looking for revenge against Tech. Tech will probably go to a bowl game, but I think the National Title is out of reach for them, unless they're this year's Missouri or Kansas and surprise people with their refusal to lose.

There offense is absolutely stacked. However, if they lose 1 game they are out of contention for the BCS national championship game because of there lack of notoriety in comparison to some PAC-10, SEC, and ACC teams. It is a longshot to say that TTU will go undefeated since they have to play Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Nebraska. Therefore, TTU will prob not go to the championship game. Crabtree is amazing though.
GO NOLES!

slim and none and slim just left town. Playing At Oklahoma will end your chances, sorry. Playing a soft ooc schedule requires a flawless conference record to get love from the voters in the harris poll and the coaches poll. In Conference its At Oklahoma, At Kansas, Texas, and Kansas St. being the tough games. Texas Tech will be much improved this season, but it won't be enough. Expect about 9 wins overall.

Tech's offense is fun to watch but their defense can't hold up in the big games. Defense wins championships. Plus you have Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas to deal with. Good luck!

look at the big 12 it if you can get out with 1 loss and win your division your a defante bcs bowl contender. its a brutal conferance with texas, oklahoma, mizzou, kansas, colorado whos a real darkhorse, nebraska whos gonna be alot better and k-state who always pulls of some upset in the conferance. so id say the chances are slimto none for the champonship and a bcs berth. but theres some hope.
