My Blank DVD-R is Unformated? How do I format it?
sounds like an easy question rite?...
but everytime I try to burn or Open up my Blank DVD-R, they say " Windows cannot read teh disc in drive E;\
Make sure that the disc uses a format that windows recognizes. If the disc is unformatted, you need to format it before using it."
If I right click the DVD Drive Icon, there's not a thing that says "format"...
and Heck I used the Same Blank DVD few weeks ago...|

OK..it is clear from your additional details that you are following correct procedures.
The reasons for this error could be a faulty disc in majority of the cases.Try changing disc or try another brand.
If errors persist, the issue is either with the device driver or the physical drive.
Right click on My Computer and see the Hardware Manager in the Properties bar.Check if the drive is showing any errors.
In case error exists, try repairing from the options provided(but never worked for me).In that case, you might need to reinstall windows.
The last case is when the drive is faulty ...it has happened to me...I used Sony's dvd-writer.Sometimes it burns successfully blank discs and sometimes refuses to detect blank discs...
The only solution is to call the nearest Sony service center and ask them to repair or replace the drive.
It gets done free of cost if the product is under warranty period..else you would have to pay for it..
Hope this helps..adios...

Sometimes this will happen when using a disc from a multi spindle like a 30 or 50 disc spindle you have purchased.
The cause is poor quality, or an error when they were made.
2nd This can also occur when the disc you are trying to use was burned with software that was set at the wrong setting. Most of your better software will give the option when burning. Mac only, Pc only, and Mac or PC.
So as you can see this could be a problem.
And depending on what machine and Operating System you are using some will give you options as to wht you want to do when you insert a blank CD or DVD. If ignore option is choosen that is your problem.

I’m not too sure what your question is but here is what I know. You probably know that but DVD-R and DVD+R can be recorded only once and like you said the format option will never be available because you don’t need to format them before burning them. On the other hand, DVD-RW or DVD+RW can be formatted and rerecorded may times
Sometimes DVD brands are not compatible with DVD burner. Try another brand of blank DVD and see if it works. If you still have the same problem there could be a problem with your DVD burner or the software you use for burning.

It sounds like an easy question, but it's given enough users their share of headaches and piles of what are known as "coasters". (real coasters aren't supposed to have a hole in the middle, are they?)
Anyway, see if you've installed any DVD burning software on your PC - these things tend to monopolize the recording end of your DVD drive (I'm assuming that you've got the right media for that drive). If you, do no problem - use that program to deal with all blank DVD;'s.
I've got Roxio EM 8 and finally learned which of its many features (in what combination) will burn a DVD for movies or just for data. I had my current PC for about a year unable to burn so much as a data DVD before I realized to leave Windows Explorer alone when trying to do anything with a blank DVD.
Roxio 8 was pretty kludgy - sometimes it would freeze or just die, and it was always pretty slow, but it did the trick. I think that they're up to Roxio 10 by now - pick up one of those packs and you'll soon find your problems solved.

If you are using Windows XP, you cannot write to a DVD using Windows Explorer in the way you can with CDs. You will need to use another software program such as Nero or Roxio to burn the DVD. Windows XP does not have any DVD burning functionality.
Also, be sure that your DVD drive is capable of burning DVD-R discs. A few years ago, some manufacturers only supported either DVD+R or DVD-R but not both. If your DVD burner is fairly recent this should not be a problem. DVD+R and DVD-R are different.

You do NOT and can NOT format any DVD or CD.
However, you may be able to "erase" DVD-RW, DVD+RW, CDRWs.
The correct term here should be erase (even thought your Nero or Roxio software says "format")
In the old days. for a computer to read anything burn on the desk. you must "CLOSE THE DISC" which allow burner software "Write" index of files onto the Disc.
And that's the reason why I always suggest use the Proper software for any burning session (which means no, you do not want to use built in windows capability) instead. Use Nero, Roxio, Record Now! (software that came with your burner).
And also, DVD-R and DVD+ R are single use Medias. You must have DVD-RW or DVD+RW to have the media "re-used"

Simple ANsWER
Your drive may only accept DVD + R
try updating your PC and drivers.
Most Drives are specific for either -R or +R,
Make sure that the disc uses a format that windows recognizes. If the disc is unformatted, you need to format it before using it." (this bit is for rewritable disks only)
dvd-r you CANNOT format it.
if it was dvd-rw then you could format it using any dvd writer.

TRy another type of dvd disk and get the type that is made for your recorder. The older dvd burners could only wright - type dvdr's and others the + type. The more recent models can write both. Also, try shutting down the pc and unplugging the communication cable(eide or sata) for your dvd burner and plugging it back in then restarting, it should work fine again.
Good luck.
