A/C question, Not blowing hard enough to cool house, but cold enough air is comming out?

diffently sounds like the fan is not blowing hard enough. Not all blower units have multi speeds Lock at your fan motor located in your air handler, if it has 4 wires typically yellow, red, black and white, you have a three speed those wires should plug into a board, depending on what termial there pluged into will decide the speed. If your fan motor has only a white and black there is no adjustment and I have seen it where the fan motor is not capible of handling the load needed for air conditioning such as horsepower. Now a new air handler may even have dip switches to control the speed they can get really confusing if your not familiar with the equipment. My advise is to look at the wires on the fan motor and see where they go on the board. it will say on the wire diagram what wires are what speed and make sure they are on the termial marked for cool. If that don;t work you will need to call out a tech... I woud also like to add if you have a 30 degree differnce from your return grill to the air exiting the regesters. the refrigeration system is working correctly, high amounts of humidity will also cause that number to be less then 30

first off it depends on how long the unit has been running air conditioners circulate the air and it gradually gets colder after each cycle through the evaperator so being it has run for at least 15 minutes and it still isnt as cold as it should be then you should probably get the freon checked. also make sure the filters are clean including the one inside the air handler if there is one a lot of people dont even know you can put one inside it. also make sure the condenser coils are washed out real good because condenser coils are a lot like radiators if there dirty then it will run high head pressure and not cool properly also have you ever noticed ice building up on the big line outside that could indicate low freon or in a lot of cases a clogged evap coil. so many things can cause a unit to appear to be low on freon that is why it is a good idea to get it serviced annually. but make sure you find a good service man that will actually check the right things because a lot of times they will just add freon and go on and a overcharged unit will work untill it gets really hot and also it puts a strain on your equipment. so i would recommend getting it checked by someone with expeerience

I'm no expert but I have a 50-60 year old house I've been working on for 2 years. I would start to eliminate stuff that could be wrong or right. I wouldn't suspect insulation but poor venting in the attic is counter productive to cooling your house. Cleaning the intakes in my house helped both heating and cooling my house. Cleaning could be as easy as reaching in as far as you can with a brush. The professional cleaner guys...well I have my opinions. Change your air filter every month regaurdless of what you think. Its not that much money to replace. See if you can gain access to the fan see if it blows. Get a programmable thermostat if don't have one, that was a big deal for my house. What I also found out was that some vents in my house were too big while some were too small for the space it supplied air to. The bath vent was 10x10 while the bedroon was 3x10 inches. Crazy I know. When the tech comes out have him check the sub cooling and super heat and tell him you want the figures and how he came up with them. This way you will know he knows what he is doing. These are the checks that tell you what the unit is doing and part of trouble shooting. Too many a so called tech has left and caused a premature failure because of poor training. Hope this helps. Look for number between 12 and 15 . This would mean unit are as efficient as can be.

Keep all your blinds closed and try to keep as many lights off as possible. I'm not sure if it is a portable unit or not. If it is then try putting a pan infront of the vent, if it isn't then I would have your furnace fans checked to ensure that they are working properly. If all that isn't working well then have the HVAC guys come and check all your ducting to make sure there is no major leakage somewhere in the ducts, good luck.

I bet she's froze up.Run the fan only for 30 minutes to check this.This will melt the frost or ice.If she's running continuously she could be low of refrigerant.

That will freeze the coil and make it run all the time and not cool.

could be a few things,

check fan motor,it could be faulty and about to fail

check gas charge

check the evapourator coil as it may be dirty or blocked

the fan speed setting should be on the control ,that should be in the house.

basically you have an air flow problem and not a refrigeration problem,its going to be a faulty fan motor ,wrong setting on control or dirty/blocked evapourator coil

Have you cleaned the evap.coils (at least once a year) and changed filters once a month?The air coming out should be below 50' if properly charged.Blower spead changes usualy require a wireing option change.

There is a fan setting inside the unit and if power has ever been cut off to the a/c unit, it might have re-set itself to the lowest fan speed. It is usually located in the unit outside. Don't let someone charge you some ridiculus amount to change the setting.
