My Chocolate Lab's mouth smells horrible!!?
His teeth and gums are healthy, his diet is high quality dry food only. I know what is causing the smell, he has started eating his own poop. While we try to train him not to do this how do I get rid of the smell?? It is coming from his lips not his tongue or teeth. I know soap of any kind is not an option, and can't really imagine him willingly swishing his entire mouth in a huge bowl of Scope. Plus that couldn't be healthy for him or my wallet. When I brush his teeth and tongue he holds his lips up so I have access to his teeth (such a good boy!) so what do I do?!! HE REEKS OF POO!!!

Its normal for a big dog to have stinky breath. You should take him to the vet to get his teeth cleaned and maybe get some dog fresh breath bones at your local pet store.
Here is some info on why your dogs breath smells the way it does...
Halitosis, or bad breath, is an unpleasant odor coming from your dog's mouth. It's more than just "doggie breath" in that it is offensive.
There are several products on the market to help you deal with doggie breath including dog toothbrush and paste, dog treats that can help minimize tartar or freshen dog breath as welll as doggie breath drops. It is first important to understand and treat any underlying diseases that may be causing the foul odor.
Usually halitosis has oral causes, although sometimes it can be caused by other disease processes. These include:
Gingivitis (inflammation of the gums)
Periodontitis (inflammation of the tissue that surrounds the tooth)
Abscessed tooth or teeth
Bone or hair stuck in mouth
Oral ulceration
Foreign bodies in the mouth (such as plant mater

At any local pet store or walmart or whatever more than likely has special breathmints "dog biscuts" especially fit for your dog they have then for all different sizes depending on the size of your dog. Now About It Eating Its Own Poo: If your dog isn't getting enough protien it will eat its own waste so that will also help. The best food that is really good that we use is: kibbles n' bits, Purina, and also Beniful. Another thing might be the Kibbles N' Bits moistened beefy canned dog food. It works well. Keep up on brushing his teeth too.

He's eating poop because he's not getting enough of some vitamin or mineral.
Try a different dog food.
