How old is your PC? Generally PC's older then 2 years will use IDE and newer ones SATA. In google, type in SATA connector on motherboard. You will see what one looks like. Open your case and see if you have an empty one. Google IDE motherboard connector and see if you have one. SATA is quicker and the cables are smaller.

IDE and SATA are device connection types used by computers. You have to know what is supported on your motherboard of the computer you're going to be putting this hard drive into. If your current board has a wide ribbon coming from the hard drive to the board, then it's IDE, while a thinner cable will be SATA.

SATA is hassle-free connection and requires thin cables which are easy to plug. Also SATA offers better performance than IDE.

Buy a SATA drive if your mobo has SATA support. Or else, go for the IDE versions.

Your motherboard has to have an onboard SATA port. That's where you start first. Yes there are IDE to SATA adapters.

well you have to have the correct connectors plus the correct wire looms. not all motherboards support sata or have sata connection ports. sata is "QUOTED" to be faster but IDE drives are increasingly inexpensive.
