Could be that you aren't warming your voice up enough before you begin singing.
If you've had any training, then you should know some warm-up exercises to strengthen your voice. If not, there are many good websites to help you with your scales (do,re,mi,fa,sol,la,ti,do...that's the scales).
Make sure you warm up - you don't want to overexert your voice and knock it out. If you go to church or have a community center in your area and they have a choir the director of the choir or chorus can help you with this. Or, if you are still in school join the choir or chorus there. You will be taugh proper singing techniques.
Good luck, hon!

you may not be doing proper warm ups or warm downs. Do your usual warm-up before singing and then when your down with a performance or so forth do the same warm-up as a warm-down. IT helps me alot, i had the same problem. Also mix together lemon juice-just a little with warm water to open your thoart before singing.
