Why do they think sea salt is better than regular salt?

Sea salt has 560 mg. of sodium. Salt has 590 mg of sodium.

    there is actually smaller sodium in sea salt when compared to table salt. Table salt is actually refined salt, this means that all the trace minerals that are found in sea salt are extracted from it leaving only sodium and chloride which is what we now call as table salt. Sea salt on the other hand has not gone into any refining methods.

    The crystals are a different size making the control a little easier. You can see the crystals so it makes seeing what you have seasoned a little easier. Kosher salt is the same, the crystals are a little easier to control.

    I also think that the crystal shape is different on the sea salt so it dissolves differently, but that is getting a little more nit-picky.

    Now there is a difference in taste as well, traditional table salt can sometimes have a harsher taste, some will say metallic due to the iodide that is added.

    If you get nuts I would guess that salt from different areas will also have a different taste. Pink salt, grey salt, black salt, on and on and on....it will depend on the chemical make up of the ground, algae, and what ever else is in the surrounding region.

    I just stick with the sea salt I find at Costco I adjust the grind to coarse or fine. I don't think it is particularly important in my life to coordinate my salt to my dish. (heck there are days when I'm lucky my shoes match.)

    Sea salt has less sodium as you have indicated. Regular table salt primarily kiln-dried sodium chloride with anti-caking agents added. Minerals like calcium and magnesium are removed in the processing. Your body needs these minerals in order to function properly, especially the heart and kidneys. These are electrolytes and are necessary for the proper functioning of the electrical system of the heart. Sea salt is natural salt that is sun dried and still contains these minerals. Just be careful to check the label to make sure the sea salt is processed by evaporation or sun-drying and not kiln-drying like regular salt.

    Well...sea salt has 30 less milligrams of sodium than regular salt. Sodium causes high blood pressure which can result in a stroke.

    All those fancy "mg" numbers are just another marketing add..

    The salt like Morton's adds a silica (I believe) so it will not clump ...There is iodized salt (it has a metallic taste but essential in preventing Rickets)

    I believe if you search there are at least 50 different kinds of salt . So it is all nonsense ..."STOP stressing"..

    sea salt is sun dried and has ALL dung and chemicals

    so of course it have a little less sodium per unit

    They actually say that sea salt has no sodium, but that is not right because it is salt, and salt is sodium chloride. I don't really see the different.

    Because of actually how much % of sodium is in each. Sea salt has less % of sodium. Hope this helps! :)

    I believe it's because sea salt does not have iodine in it, which can be a problem for some people who have specific medical conditions.

    Isn't table salt made out of two chemicals? Sodium and chloride I think.(NaCh) Sea salt is natural

    well regular salt is pure sodium chloride.
