Anyone else have an elevated heart rate during pregnancy?
I'm 16 weeks pregnant and physically fit. My normal resting heart rate is around 62 - 64 beats per minute. Over the past few weeks, I've noticed that my resting heart rate is closer to 72 beats per minute. Also, I've had a few short episodes (10 - 15 minutes) during which my heart rate goes up to about 120 beats per minute. I know that the body is producing a lot more blood right now, so it makes sense that the heart would have to work harder than normal. But the 'racing-heart' thing seems a little weird.
Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Is this normal?

Yes. I had that through my whole pregnancy and the doc says I am healthy. Pregnant women have up to 40 percent more blood in their bodies which is why we breath deeper and heavier at times. With higher level of blood in out bodies our heart sometimes pumps faster. I know its a little unnerving but you will get used to it. Even so though you should still mention it to your OB.

Yes, my heart rate has been elevated throughout my pregnancy. My doctor ran an EKG on me to make sure I have regular heart beats, and checked for preeclampsia as well. they are regular but very high. At my last appointment my heart beat was 120 and I had been sitting for about 30 minutes, so I was not moving or exerting myself in any way.
My doctor just thinks it's because of being pregnant and the extra work my heart is doing pumping blood to my baby.
But I'm 36 weeks now and it fluctuates between 90-120...the good thing is I only have 4 more weeks to go, i hope...

This is very normal. However, if it gets over 100 (resting)you need to call your OB.
I experienced this and the last two months of pregnancy I had to be put on medication to keep my resting heart rate bellow 120. I it continues I would suggest going to a cardiologist.
Best of luck!

I just asked my Dr. about this yesterday and she said it was normal. Sometimes I feel out of breath when I just stand up! She said it's the increased blood making my heart work harder. And, that the baby has pushed a lot of organs up making it harder for me to breath!

Yes its normal. Your blood volume increases and as such, your heart works harder. Plus you're carrying around a bit more weight as well.
