is this normal after getting 4 wisdom teeth pulled?

its been 72 hours since my wisdom teeth pulled.

the top 2 was a straight pull, but the bottom 2 was impacted.

my face is still REALLY swollen. and because of that.. i cant really eat anything, because i cant even open my mouth that big.

i woke up this morning and had a very bad bitter taste in my mouth.

whenever i eat food, i have a bloody taste in my mouth.

it does not hurt tho, just very very mild pain. the only day that it hurt was the day the extraction, even so... the pain wasnt as horrible as people described. after that the pain went away.

it hurts now when i touch my jaw bone.

and i can feel that i have horrible breath after the extration.

is this all normal? or do i have drysocket?

i heard everyone saying about the drysocket, it seems pretty scary so do i have that?

Update:

my dentist did not give me a syringe... its only been a few days since my teeth is pulled.. is it okay for me to go get one and use it now? or i should wait a week before using syringe?

You would be in a LOT of pain if you had dry socket.

Your breath is bad because of the blood that is pooling in your mouth - it makes your breath horrible. You are also going to be sore for a while.

    Sounds completely normal to me.

My situation was very similar to yours as far as how my teeth were. I also had dry socket in the bottom left part of my mouth so I know how painful it is. Usually when you have dry socket, the dentist will put packing in place and have you come in every other day (will put antiseptic/numbing solution on the packing) and will help that heal. You most likely do not have it as a good dentist will know right away if you have it or not.

As previously stated, gargle with salt water. This should help clean out your mouth in a very natural way. I would gently brush your teeth, though I would discourage mouth wash. This will help with the taste you feel in your mouth. I was very uncomfortable during this time, and yes the taste in my mouth was awful.

I was told to take a week off for getting my wisdom teeth out because that's usually how long it takes to recover. Have some soft foods (yogurt, soup, chowder, ice cream) that will not hurt that bad when you eat. You should be taking your pain pills as prescribed to you. Hopefully your discomfort won't last too much longer.

I feel your pain. Litterly. I just got my wisdom teeth out last friday, and I'm still a bit swollen. I had all four pulled, and all four were impacted. I can't open my mouth, i can barley fit my thumb in my mouth. But i was put under anesthesia for the surgery.

For the first three days, you were supposed to keep ice packs on both cheeks to reduce swelling... don't know if you did. If you didn't, it's fine. It's never too late. After 3 days of ice packs, you are supposed to switch to a heating pad for 3 days. I kept the heating pad on when i was watching tv, sleeping, etc.

I was on pain meds for the first 3 days, and had to take one every 4 hours, and they were drowsy. needless to say i slept for about 3 days staright.

Gargul salt water every night before bed. It will help heal the wounds. It does not sting, I promise.

Dry sockets are not common at all. I was nervous if i had them, but you most likly do not. Just use the salt water and it will prevent it.

Don't use salt from a salt shaker, use idolized salt. fill almost the very bottom of a cup and then fill about half way with warm water. Rise 3 times.

    Hope this helps!

I refuse to have any dentist touch my wisdom teeth, they are there for a reason. So that when I am toothless, I will still have 4 more LOL In any case, that is just an opinion. It sounds like you probably have a swollen wound most likely. Vicodin will help you keep the pain off but it will not help with the swell. It is swollen because somehow it has gotten some bacteria or got exposed. The dentist will usually put something to lower the swelling and then most likely some penicillin or similar medicine. If it is very bad and you have insurance, you might want to visit the hospital to see if they can inject you for the swelling or bacteria. Good Luck!

Your okay...gently swish some warm salt water in your mouth 2-3 times a day to cleanse the wounds. Cold packs wrapped in a towel applied to the face will help your swelling and will probably help with your jaw pain. Your jaw will likely be sore for awhile, but it will go away.

As for dry socket...those are painful. I had a mild one when I had mine done and the pain was hard to control with the narcotics I had been given. You do not have one, you just have typical postop pain.

As for your syringe, you will probably get that at your follow-up visit. Since it has been 72 hours, you would probably be okay to use one, but dont be overly zelous with it. You could still dislodge a clot and get dry socket. You can use warm salt water with the syringe to help cleanse back in there real good.

If you have a dry socket, you will know it because it is the most excruciating pain you will ever feel. This all sounds normal, as I have had the same after having mine removed. Since it has been 72 hours, you can rinse with warm salt water to help with the cleaning and healing every 4 to 6 hours. Becareful to swish with the water and do not forcefully spit or it could dis-lodge the clot. If the clot is lost, then you get a dry socket. Ice packs on each jaw helps with the swelling.

Yes that's normal. Having bad breath after getting your wisdom teeth pulled is no big deal. It only smells bad because you have open wounds in your mouth that are trying to heal. That will go away once the wounds heal up. If you did have dry socket you would know. It is very painful and sensitive to the touch. It will take awhile but you should heal up pretty fast.

What you are describing is completely normal. If you had dry-socket you would be in a lot of pain.

The taste of blood goes away in a few days, and you could look like a chipmunk for about a week.

Hang in there. You never need to have them removed again.

And as my mother says, if it hurts when you touch it, "don't touch it."

I think its totally normal it usually hurts for 5-7 days after you get them pulled expecially if you got all 4 done at once. I dont think its dry socket unless you either 1. Smoke or 2. have drank through any straws.
