What can I make with (unsweetened) Toasted Oat Cereal?

Help!!

I have 2 boxes of the plain round oats, not the honey coated, My kids refuse to eat it.

Is there a way to coat them with something sweet? Or maybe crush it and use it in a recipe?

I can let all the neighborhood kids make necklaces from it, but I will still have plenty left over.

Thank You!

    You can try to sprinkle cinnamon, powdered sugar, chopped berries, sliced banana or yogurt instead of milk on your toasted oats for breakfast. And also this is a great recipe for a energy boost snack that uses up those toasted oats.

    Ingredients:

    1/2 cup of peanut butter (natural would be best, its up to you)

    1/2 cup of sugar(you can use brown to make them extra chewy =)

    1/2 cup of honey

    3 cups of toasted oats cereal

    1 cup of roasted salted peanuts

    1 cup of chocolate chips(semi or milk; I've used M&Ms a few times and it was delicious!)

    Directions:

    First combine the honey and the sugar in a saucepan on medium high heat (you can do this in the microwave too). Then bring it to a boil and remove the saucepan from the stove. If you microwave it, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put on HIGH for 2 minutes. Remember to stir before the next step. Stir in the peanut butter until it is well blended. Then stir in the rest of the ingredients and mix until it is well coated. Remember do this as quickly as possible before it hardens. Finally spread the mixture into a greased 9x13 pan and let it cool down before cutting into squares. Enjoy!

    You could get a box or two of your favorite chex cereal, bag of pretzels and some Chex seasoning packets(walmart) and have some chex mix. The cheerios get all shrunking and hold a lot of flavor, mmmm. You can even add in some nuts if you like. here is the recipe to make homemade seasoning mix:

    6 tbs butter

    2 tbs worcestershire sauce

    1 1/2 tsp seasoning salt

    3/4 tsp garlic powder

    1/2 tsp onion powder

    You may need a few batches of this to cover two boxes of cheerios though!

    This usually covers about 9-11 cups of mix, so you will have to measure it all out by the time you add in other ingredients besides cheerios.

    You could use it to make cookies, as long as the cookie recipe has some milk in it. Or drizzle the cereal with honey and serve with yogurt and fruit, like granola. Or how about this--sweeten the cereal with honey, toast it in the oven a little, and mix it with another kind of cereal to make Rice Krispie treats. Maybe even use it for Chex Mix with lots of nuts and pretzels and spices so no one notices it's yucky oat cereal!

    BEST CEREAL BARS

    * 2/3 cup Karo syrup

    * 1 cup brown sugar

    * 1 cup peanut butter

    * 6 1/2 cups Cheerios toasted oat cereal

    Mix Karo syrup and brown sugar together in heavy pan and cook just till it bubbles around edges. Take off heat and add pb and stir good. Add cheerios and stir good. Put in buttered 9x13 pan and press down real hard and even so they won't fall apart when you cut them. You can put in fridge to harden quickly or just let sit on the counter to cool.

    Enjoy!

    My favorite thing to do is make them into desert bars! Just like "Rice Krispies Bars," you use marshmallow and margarine plus your oats...they taste just the same, and what kid doesn't love this snack!

    Also, you piqued my interest so I visited (Cheerios) website, and they have tons of other recipes as well; some looked pretty promising...I might have to try a few : - )

    As a treat it should be fine. I would pick out the sunflower seeds as those are really bad for them. As a staple diet, you should feed 80% cockatiel pellets, 15% healthy human food including fruits and veggies, 5% seeds and treats.
