What's the big deal about Geoge Soros?

So, one of the conservative boogeymen is George Soros?

Just what is the big deal about him? He came to this country with little, became wealthy (the American dream) and is now exercising the freedoms this great country grants him.

From hearing the way his name is tossed about by conservatives, you almost suspect they use his name to scare children -- "if you don't behave, George Soros will get you!"

Update:

So, did he have a "far left ideology" when he helped fund Solidarity in Poland, helping to defeat the Soviet Union?

Oh, wait, Solidarity was one of those big bad *unions*, so I guess that just makes him a liberal again.

Soros is considered a class traitor by conservatives, who despite their claim that liberals engage in class warfare are themselves very active in it. Soros is a billionaire who has supported fair trade and more equal globalization policies in the Third World, the prime source of wealth for himself and other financial agents who have plundered capital from developing countries through currency markets over the past thirty years. Soros has dared to point out this fact and criticize it in books like The Crisis of Global Capitalism (while at the same time getting wealthy by the same means). But at least he's honest, and he's in favor of re-investing part of his capital where it's needed most. Recently there have been a number of people with his kind of wealth that have begun to agree with him. They see the writing on the wall--it's impossible to maintain this level of exploitation indefinitely. Look at the WTO and how it's been ground to a halt by a coalition of developing nations who are fed up. Either the vast inequalities of the system will be eased or it'll break down completely.

The thought of a rich person not being a totally greedy scumbag and only grubbing for more money, at the expense of working people, is antithetical and abhorrent to conservatives.

Not only does he own shares in Halliburton, he also keeps most of his money hidden in offshore bank accounts, yet, he shoves his socialist agenda down the throats of us who don't.

Let him put HIS money where his mouth is.
