Those fascinated with becoming merfolk?
I am going to ask you guys some questions. Because I have been so vehement about the fact that you can’t turn into one, I never really got into the reasons you would want to become one. Just curious, so if you would please answer these questions.
1) Why is it you want to become a merperson? Is it because of the show H20? Because that is one man’s variation of the mermaid legend, and probably the least likely.
2) Do you realize what you would be giving up if you were to turn into a merperson at the touch of water?
This last one is to those who say they are mermaids:
How are you operating the computer?
Going by the H20 mermaids, which so many of you seem to take these mermaid questions from, you would be turned into a mermaid at this time because lean muscle tissue contains about 75% water, blood contains 95% water, body fat contains 14% water and bone has 22% water.
Now since all of these things make up your body, I would think they would be seen as touching your body.
Platonic mage, I do have to agree with you about the calling.Someone just feeling that they are supposed to be that way, as I have expereinced that.
Timothy, but even before the show H20, how come you wanted to become a merman?
Funny, its been 8 hours since I made this question and I am a bit disappointed with the responses.
Miss Aquamarine, all capitol letters is really childish.I'ma practicng witch and know a thing or twoa bout spells, and simply put a spell can't change your physical body that much.As well, you did not answer any of my questions.
As well, Miss Aquamarine I have no desire to become a merperson
Let me just point something out here.I am not saying a mermaid like creature can't exist. We have barely explored our world's oceans and I think there could definitly be a mermaid like creature out there, just not a half human, half fish creature.
That photo of the mermaid? It may not have been tampered with, but this is the internet, and people can post whatever they want. The fact that it is on a site that offers scuba diving lessons and such already makes it a bit seedy. As well, I would think news of this would have reached television stations and scientists and the rest of the world would have known about it in 1998 when the photo was taken. All I can think is that it is a marketing attempt. As well, just because people say the photo wasn't tampered with, doesn't mean it is a real mermaid. It could have been a woman in a suit.
As well Weekly Wordl News, the people who said the photograph was original, is a farcical tabloid.
Twyla- A good place to start from the internet would be www.witchvox.com. As well as for books...Scott Cunningham, Raymond Buckland, Christopher Penzack, and Gerald Gardner( rediscoverer of modern Wicca). Those are probably the most recommended in the occult and witchcraft community. Also, twevle is when I first started looking into this as well.
As well, stay away from the author Silver Ravenwolf.I might recommend a first book tob e Chirstopher Penzack's Inner Temple of Witchcraft. It is a bit advanced, but the beginning chapters give pretty good summaries of the different branches fo wicca, witchcraft, and other pagan religions. As well ti gives a good openign about history.

I do not want to become a merperson due to the show H20 (Though I do enjoy watching it.) I'm not certain why I would like to become one, I guess it's a subconscious thing...
I do realize I would be giving up a lot, but I am not going by the idea from H20 that touching water would transform you, for, as you mentioned, the human body is made up very much of water, and I'd technically be touching water all the time.
Since I am not a mermaid, and am not claiming to be, I am not at liberty to answer the third question.
Note: My friend tried a spell she found online that was supposed to work after 24 hours. When I looked at the page she had found it on, it was obvious to me that the person that had written it got everything from H20. As you can guess, the spell did not work when we went swimming 2 days later.
Also, do you know of any good sources to study paganism for a younger person? I am 12 and I am very interested in the art of witchcraft (not the Harry Potter type, I try not to mesh reality and TV or book series) but I can't seem to find any good sources for someone of my age... any help would be appreciated!

TV mermaids are fictional. In reality, a mermaid has complete conscious control over when they transform.
As to why they want to be a mermaid, usually it's just a calling. People with the right kind of soul, someone who is good and kind and caring and who is trustworthy enough to stay true to the code of the merfolk, simply get a craving to be one. There are many benefits: improved hearing and sight, plus the ability to feel movement around you and talking and breathing underwater. Those are tempting advantages.
