Laptop shut down during recovery process and now won't boot?
I wanted to do a system recovery on an old Acer Aspire 3000 series laptop. I made a backup of data I needed and set the computer to boot from CD-ROM in the BIOS. Then I restarted the laptop with the system CD in the drive. That part went fine and I was prompted to put in the first recovery CD. I did that, and the recovery started. I watched the Ghost progress for a bit, and then I left the computer for a few minutes. I came back when I thought I might be prompted to use the next recovery disk, but found the laptop had shut down.
Now when I turn on the laptop, it doesn't attempt to read the CD-ROM; it gets as far as the ACER screen and then a black screen with a blinking cursor appears. Is there anything I can do besides call Acer? I don't think they support the 3000 series anymore.

Please don't take this wrong but you aren't the first and you won't be the last to have this problem with Acer.
You see when these companies start making computers they develop there own version of recovery CD's and everyone I have ever dealt with did the same thing yours did,
A few years back all computer manufactures gave there customers the complete Microsoft CD's for the Operating System and guess what they worked every time. Since they have been creating there own version of system recovery some work some don't. So unless you contact Acer and have them walk you through there substandard system restore your only option is to purchase a retail version of the software that has the Code Key to Unlock it and you won't have any problems. Oh and you will notice you won't have all the extra unnecessary crap they add on to there version and your machine will seem like a jet in comparison,

Just grasping at straws here...
Try resetting the BIOS. Try pulling the hard drive to see if it will at least give you a no bootable devices found message. If it doesn't, then that suggests it isn't even making it that far, in which case Acer is your only option.

start up with the help of stripping out each little thing bar the bare necessities: CPU, a million stick of RAM, DVD, HDD and portraits card (in the experience that your workstation would not have onboard). Take the coolest deal out of the case and bench try it to make helpful not something is shorting. examine that your CPU heatsink is obvious from airborne dirt and dirt and fluff and that the fan is working properly. in case you are able to borrow a potential supply unit (PSU) from a pals/relatives workstation. regrettably random potential offs and restarts could be led to with the help of many stuff :(

HI,
i don't know if this will work but please try it, reboot your system and press "F2" as it boots up, this should take you into your recovery screen, then select the restore option and it should ask you for your recovery disc. hope it works.
