Books, food, and technology--those are some of my favourite things. I am always reading a book or two (or more). I write professionally and for fun. When I have writer's block or lack concentration...I find myself on Y! Answers.
Can you identify this tool?
Found it in my parents' basement (they are packrats!).

5 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoCan you recommend some non-superhero graphic novels for a 9-yr-old boy?
My son is 9 and in grade 4. I'd like some suggestions for graphic novels that he might enjoy. Just no superheroes, because we have lots of those.
Some info about his likes/dislikes:
Preferred genres (in this order): adventure, humour, fantasy, mystery, action.
Stuff he loves: the Bone series (he has all of them, incl. prequels etc.), Ranma 1/2 anime (for the silly humour), Diary of a Wimpy Kid (ditto on the humour), Star Wars, Transformers (80s cartoon), Narnia.
And that's about it. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. But no manga please--he likes colour. :)

I am developing a prototype support page. One part of it will be in French. How do I say the following in French?

- Favourite (as in a 'favorite' page -- or equivalent idea)
- Log Out
Thanks!
4 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoDo I put this position on my resume? If so, how do I explain it?
At my previous employer I was offered a position that related to a special project. However, the project itself kept experiencing delays and I never really did do much for that position. I did train and certify for it, and I did a lot of theoretical work relating to the project. The position was quite different from my previous role.
My current resume doesn't include any info on this position, but would it be worth mentioning? If so, how? If you have done something like this on your resume, how did you incorporate it? Thanks!
3 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment1 decade agoWhat is the term for the short scene/shot (television)?
On TV, what is the term for the shot that appears before going to commercial break (and often appears again before going back to the show after the commercial break is over)? It may be a shot of the show's title or something, perhaps with a voiceover stating the title of the show, or something like that. Thanks.
1 AnswerWords & Wordplay1 decade agoCan you identify this insect (is it a moth?)?
Hi, since I took some clothes out of storage, we've encountered a few of these bugs around the house. I'm 99% sure that we've only ever seen them on the second floor, where the closets are, and once or twice in the laundry room. What are these bugs, and how do I get rid of them? They are kind of gold coloured (it may not look like that in the photos because I altered the contrast in photoshop). I'd like to know the name of the insect; links to web pages that can help are appreciated too. Thanks.
5 AnswersZoology1 decade agoHow long can I keep tres leches cake refrigerated?
I made tres leches cake and I'd like to know how long it keeps. I know I probably can't freeze it, so how long can it stay in the fridge and still be good? Thanks!
1 AnswerCooking & Recipes1 decade agoWhat should I do with an old car seat and stroller?
My car seat and stroller are nearing their expiration dates. But I feel a twinge when I think of throwing them away. Is there anything I can do with them that is not as wasteful? Both of my kids have used the seat and stroller, so they have some wear, though they are still working.
BTW I am in Canada, where car seats/strollers are supposed to expire after ten years (at least, that's what I was told in the hospital with both my kids).
Thanks!
5 AnswersOther - Pregnancy & Parenting1 decade agoHow do I carve a pumpkin and also cook its flesh?
Hi, I'd like to make pumpkin pie this week. Normally I use canned, but want to try using fresh pumpkin. I have 2 pumpkins, which I want to carve, but every method that I have heard of for cooking pumpkin involves cutting it in half or something like that. How can I remove all of the flesh from a pumpkin without cutting it all up? Thanks.
4 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoLaptop shut down during recovery process and now won't boot?
I wanted to do a system recovery on an old Acer Aspire 3000 series laptop. I made a backup of data I needed and set the computer to boot from CD-ROM in the BIOS. Then I restarted the laptop with the system CD in the drive. That part went fine and I was prompted to put in the first recovery CD. I did that, and the recovery started. I watched the Ghost progress for a bit, and then I left the computer for a few minutes. I came back when I thought I might be prompted to use the next recovery disk, but found the laptop had shut down.
Now when I turn on the laptop, it doesn't attempt to read the CD-ROM; it gets as far as the ACER screen and then a black screen with a blinking cursor appears. Is there anything I can do besides call Acer? I don't think they support the 3000 series anymore.
4 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoWhat do you think this character was about to say in TDK (spoiler alert)?
I know, yet another Dark Knight question. But I haven't seen anyone ask this one, and it's been nagging at me since I saw the movie.
What do you think Rachel was about to say before she died? It was something like "I have to tell you something. Someone--" BOOM.
2 AnswersMovies1 decade ago3.5 weeks to go and pelvic area feels very 'heavy' in the evening?
For the past week or so I've noticed an increased feeling of pressure in the lower tummy area, which is normal. But in the evening, whether I am just sitting reading a boo, walking, or lying in bed, I feel a huge weight and stiffness in my pelvic area as well. When I am in bed, I can hardly move my body (I have a hard time getting to sleep, so I often toss and turn). Could it be related to dinner? (should I eat less? not that I am eating a lot, but perhaps I should 'graze' instead of having a meal in the evening?) I don't feel it when I wake up in the morning. Has anyone felt this or does anyone know what I can do about it?

1 AnswerBooks & Authors1 decade agoPeel or Toronto district school boards?

Peel or Toronto: which school board is better, in terms of reputation, available jobs, staff satisfaction, and programs for children? Thanks.
2 AnswersPrimary & Secondary Education1 decade agoIdentify this comic book character/title?
I read about this maybe 2 or 3 years ago. I don't remember anything about it except that the protagonist is a female lawyer by day and some kind of crimefighter/vigilante by night. I think she has long, dark hair. Google searches aren't helping me. Anyone know what this is?
7 AnswersComics & Animation1 decade agoDo you know any good no-meat leek recipes?
I have a huge leek and would like to make something that uses it as the main ingredient; however, I have these restrictions and preferences:
-I don’t eat meat
-I don’t want to make latkes or other patties that must be fried
-I’ve made leek soup and leek quiche in the past few months, so I prefer to not make either one again
I’m also pregnant, so the healthier the recipe, the better!
Thanks.
