i'm dreading my second driving lesson?
ok yesterday i had my first driving lesson... and the thing was i hated it! i was getting everything and then as soon as i turned the car on i froze, i was just about managing the gears (only stalled once) and i thought i would alot more. but i could'nt steer to save my life! i kept crossing my arms and just gripping the wheel so tight he could'nt move it!. i just come back and felt like crying. my twin sister is also lerning and she went before me, she got everything better than me, which is alright i know were individuals, used to it. i dunno, i want to do this soo much! but i don't know if i am cut out for this, half of my family have just walked out in the middle of lessons and what if i'm like them? i have been reading blogs, and talked to my parents and people have felt the same way and people are telling me to be more positive, i don't think i'm gonna gel with my instructor? i dunno weather i want a female instructor, but i'm gonna have to work and be taught by males in life.
i have sat in the back yard with the car learning the gears since i was 14. i know them well, just never while moving. my parents say they will take me to a big car park at night when it's quiet, but they haven't put me on the insurance yet, they say i'm better with dual controls if i'm that nervous. urgh.... i just dunno it was'nt what i excpected he brought me to a quiet industrial estate but lorries kept over taking, and there was a kid playing on the grass. i think i just turned into a hermit and if i'm not happy next time i'm gonna tell him why. also it was only a clio but it felt massive! you have to pay for 4 hours upfront (because they are cheaper) but if i still feel this way after that i'll just say i think i need a different instructor than my sister.

aww dont worry, everyone feels like this on their first driving lesson, i know i did, im the most shy and unconfident person, but clearly you are unhappy that your twin 'seems' to do better than you, dont think this, there are some things you will be way better at, driving comes naturally to some and some it doesn't, i only recently passed and felt that i had really achieved something great, just remember there are many many other people in the world feeling exactly the same as you, i work with a guy whose wife took 13 times taking her test and she never gave up, trust me when you have a few more lessons, you'll get way more confident, you could just do one thing right and your gonna feel great about it....
Good luck hun x

If you really think you don't gel with your instructor, change him now!
If you are dreading your next lesson, it is his fault - plain and simple. It's vital that all lessons are taken at your pace - nothing, and I mean nothing, is done without you feeling ready to try. Going up and down the gears may be fine in the first hour for some pupils, but many will get no further than starting the engine - either way it's fine - everyone learns in a different way and at a different pace.
It should make no difference whether your instructor is male or female. It may help if you can find an instructor who openly advertises helping nervous learners.
Oh - and ask him his grade - they are graded 1 -6. 6 is the highest - you want a 5 or a 6.
Good luck.

You're not giving yourself nearly enough credit. You'd had ONE lesson and you're giving up? Nobody gets things on the first try. And stick? Haha two people have spent lots of times trying to teach me, I'm 50 and still only drive automatic!!

Before I got lessons, I practised in an empty car park. Then I got a feel for it and knew what to expect. Are there any open spaces near you where a friend or family member could take you to get your bearings before you go out on the road? It might take the pressure off..

Woah. Its was your first lesson, deep breaths...lol
Try to stay calm, take your time and dont be frightend to ask the instructor anything, no matter how small, thats what they are there for.
Not everyones a natural you will improve with every lesson.

hey. i really feel for you, it sounds horrible. ive had my test for a year now and i remember my lessons very clearly. i HATED them. i had about 50, and thats no exageration. my instructor was an asshole- he made me do a THREE hour lesson BEFORE MY ACTUAL TEST!!! no wonder i failed 3 times lol anyway.... i stuck at it and i finally got it. i know its horrible now, but i urge you to stick it out. and once you get it, youll be even more proud of yourself because you know youve been through a lot. good luck :)
