Title and artist of an oldies country song?
I'm looking for the title and artist of an old country song.* I do remember that it was sung by a man, and it was all about how he builds his own car from all of these parts. If I remember right, though, the parts were stolen, and he gets in trouble for it at the end of the song. Does anybody have any clue what song this might be? Thanks!
*By "old" I mean "before 1990."
Thank you, all! I double-checked, and yes, that's the song I was thinking of! Now I just have to figure out why I didn't recognize Johnny Cash...

"One Piece at a Time" by Johnny Cash, written by Wayne Kemp. It was Cash's last solo #1 hit.
BTW, a little trivia: there is a huge mistake in the lyrics. In the beginning of the song, when he starts his plot (which was 1953), he gets the engine on the second day. Later in the song, however, when he goes to put the car together, he says "The transmission was a '53 and THE MOTOR TURNED OUT TO BE A '73." Oops!

Johnny in his prime.... seems like late sixties or early seventies... Well, His prime was in the late fifties but, he rode the wave a good long ways,.. probably made more money than the early days . We wouldn't know country as it is if he hadn't kicked butt in the 50's and early 60's though..
Source(s): old country pickers and singers... that drink everybody elses beer..
